I had a couple dozen passwords stored in the Password Manager. When I came home yesterday after a week away, I discovered the list in Password Manager was totally gone. Since then, I've added 3 or 4 that show up, but the others are still gone.

What happened here? Does anyone know? And can I get them back? I tried System Restore, but that did nothing.

So, when you selected Tools|Options|Privacy|Show password, the popup was empty? I have no idea, and by trying System Restore you destroyed any chance of getting the info back. Passwords, in WinXP, are in the signon.txt file which is in the Profile, and hidden by default.

Thank you, Westside. I learned through another forum for Mozilla that they updated Firefox while I was gone and that my problem is everyone's problem with the new version.

You are not alone, Alice, and this appears to be a bug, altho it has not been reported to BugZilla as far as I can tell. If you type about:config in the Location Bar, then in the "Filter" field, type: signon.SignonFileName You will be shown two password files: signons.txt, and signons2.txt.

I'm going to refer you to this thread, rather than merely copy/paste the lengthy information. Some users were able to use a workaround, others had to replace all passwords.

I have the signons2.txt file, but have not lost any passwords...

Since I did not have any problem, I did not look for any changed file. I, also, have a signons2.txt file, which contain all sites from way back.

    thank you, all

Ok, I'm in the process of locating signons files. Hopefully, with the help of the link from Ramona, I'll be able to fix this. What a mess! Thank you, all.

I have both 1.5.0.10, and 2.0.0.2 installed, and each one uses a different profile. Both programs have a signons2.txt file in its profile. If you click on the file, you should be able to read part of the contents, at least the username.
I have three other profiles, not in use, and all but one have signons2.txt[/B files. One of them has asignons.txt. There is, also a key3.db file, which has nothing but code, more or less.

Does this mean a fix is coming?

Ramona, thanx for this. Does this mean a fix is coming soon from Mozilla?

    P.s.

I followed the instructions for adding the URL after the entry in signons2 for one entry and then went to Security and Passwords Manager to see if that entry was there, but it wasn't. Am I missing something in the instructions?

    1. Filing a bug is to alert Mozilla. It does not guarantee anything, any time soon. It, often, depends on the frequency of the bug. Apparently, neither Ramona nor I have a problem.
2.If you tried to add anything to the file itself, it won't work. I am not sure how you tried to add the URL.
    3. For the longest time, I was not saving the Passworrds, so my Password manager was empty. However, since I place a check mark at Tools|Options|Security|remember passwords for sites, the entries were saved.

    Adding URL to the file

Oh, well, I guess I need to read the instructions, again. I thought I was supposed to just add the URL to the file. Thanks for responding.
