The electricity went off and my computer shut down. When I restarted and clicked on my Netscape mail icon it opened as though I'd never installed it before. It asked me to start filling out e-mail account info. None of my created folders were there and none of my addresses were there either.
I searched my computer and couldn't find any of those files. Subsequently I made a new profile with my e-mail addresses and started over. I had a backup of some of my addresses but not all. Mostly I'm looking to find my folders which had some info I'd like to save. I have no idea why this happened or how to fix it. I can only assume that I had my e-mail program open when the elect. failed but I can't figure out why it whiped out my mail.
Is there a place, on my computer, where these folders might be and what would the extension for those folders be?

    Welcome to the Forum, Oldhippiechic!

You don't say which OS you are using, but if it is Windows XP, look here for your Profiles folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

This Netscape Solutions page will explain what happened and how to recover your Profile data, including mail:
Lost Mail Settings - Profile. Hopefully the power outage didn't totally wipe out your original data.

You lost the link from your Program to your Profile. Unfortunately, this has been know to happen. You are not giving any hints, so I am guessing that you use WinXP. The problem in finding the files follows.
    Windows 2000/Windows XP

    Mozilla & Netscape 7
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

To search for files in the Application Data folder, go to Start | Search.
Under More Advanced Options select Search system folders, Search
Hidden Files and folders, and Search subfolders.

You will need to point to the old profile , assuming that you have given the new one a different name.

The address book is in the same folder as everything else, in an abook.mab file

    lost folders/files netscape/mozilla

When I restarted Netscape I tried to rebuild my addressbook.
I found in the Data Application etc. abook.mab which is my current address book. Would there be another file with the old addresses that are lost or are they lost forever? I didn't see anything that looked like abook.mab although there are a few other .mab files.

I don't know what is thre effect of restarting NS on the address book. Rebuilding it? I have not heard that one. As for .mab files, my 7.2 has history.mab, which is not an addressbook file, and an impab.mab file which is an imported address book.
At this point, I have no idea where you are looking for the file, but, typically, the original profile should be in a default folder. Any new profile would have a different name, but all profiles should located in the same path, unless you know something which I don't know.
Do a Search for abook.mab, since you have unhidden the profile folder.

    finding address book

I found the abook.mab. That has the address book that I have rebuilt. There are other files there: impab and history.mab. What I wanted to know is if there might be a file that houses the addresses that I lost. If not, no problem- I'm rebuilding what I can (that's what's in the abook.mab file).
    Thanks anyway

History.mab has History, while impab.mab has imported addresses, as I said in my previous post. So, if you had, at least two address books, you are lacking the impab.mab. Just copy/paste it with NS closed. Then open NS|Address book.
