Yesterday we had a ice/snow storm, it kicked the computer on & off 3-4 times before I got to shut it down. Today when I started to boot the computer up it logged me on msn messenger, when I tried to go to yahoo, or any site it says it's unavailable, I get a error on the mail... it worked fine till yesterday..

I did have something that popped up and said something about letting Win-fi to allow the connection, I denied, I didn't know what that was...

I thought it could be a fire wall setting wrong ?

I don't know what step to take to correct this problem, am using a laptop now. We had another computer on the same time, and that computer works fine - no problems..

any help ?? thanks so much for your time

Go into your firewall rules and delete the deny/rule (assuming your connection is WIFI). When a future event occurs of this nature, select deny permission for the "event ", but do not write a rule (if firewall provides this option ".... unless you know specifically what the issue is). I would like to commend you for a job well done (seen request to allow, you chose to deny). Many user's have the habit of allowing anything / everything the firewall throws at them, which defeats the value of the firewall. Good job. :)

    1 more ?

    Thank you Dennis ! :)
sincerely - people like you here to help, people like me.. are Hero's in my eyes for sure !!!

I went to windows firewall, the message Windows firewall setting can not be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the firewall/Inrenet connection sharing(ICS)service ? I check yes,

another window pops up and says please wait, then that window goes away, and a box that says windows firewall --windows can not start the windows Firewall/Inernet connection sharing (ICS) service - I click ok, back to the control panel

    help ? now what ?

had I checked yes on the grant permission of Wi-Fi, would have it been working then ?

    update:
now I found a report that I'm pretty sure is the problem, it was under my Internet security Anit-virus panda
it says IP/TCP/UDP packets w...firewall prot souce IP address & then the numbers, date BLOCKED
I put the arrow on that line and it says: Event IP/TCP/UDP packets with headers with inconsistant data result was blocked

thank you again, for any help !!

p.s. if this is a hard thing to fix, just let me know, I'll take it 2 c the dr :D

    Good Morning countrygal
I am not familiar with Panda security products. They offer suites, combinations (AV plus Firewall), and singular protection. The above phrase would be typically issued by a firewall. XP/SP2 firewall will generally default to active UNLESS it detects the presence of a 3rd party firewall (which could be why your ICS service was off/not restart. The phrase issued is somewhat cryptic to determine what was being blocked.
Restarting a program / service can be a simply fix for many problems. A good practice when disabling security tools is first terminating / disconnecting from the Internet. Would not hurt to run a full AV scan to check. Good detective work in finding a solution.
