I searched but no joy! And I am not at all impressed with the search function of vBulletin and I didn't find what I was looking for. Even had I found it I still would not be impressed with vB search! [/soap box off]

Ever since I went to TB from OE, I have had a Personal Address Book and an Outlook Express book. And I am more than tired of this. I would like one address book. Period!

Try as I might, I have been unable to consolidate all my addresses in to the Personal Address Book. That is the goal.

I can Select All in the OE book but Copy is not an option. Now I could have sworn I saw something way back when I went to TB but at that time I wanted to wait before I consolidated them. Ever since I cannot find what I need to accomplish this consolidation.

Is there a (preferably KISS) way to do this?

Hi Doug, I think it is simpler than it seems.

Open the address book in TB, click on the Outlook Express address book, highlight all the addresses in the OE book (click on first, Shift-click on last to hilite all or you can use Edit>Select All) then left click-hold and drag and drop into the Personal Address book.

    Works for me:D

Just be aware that if you have the same address in each book you will end up with duplicates, which you will have to delete (if you want)

BTW the addresses in OE book will not be deleted doing it this way, so if you don't want them there any more, highlite and delete after you are sure you have all of them in the Personal AB.

To each their own preferences. I like as many small address books as I can get, because it is easier to find what you want. Since I go in the opposite direction, I can tell you what I have had experience with. The Personal Address Book will get bigger and bigger, since, by default that's where the addresses of outgoing mail will end up, while the other books will remain the same, unless something is dragged and dropped. I don't know of any other way than doing it one address at a time.

Hi Westside, if one so desires, you can turn off the outgoing address going into the Personal AB in Options>Composition> uncheck: Automatically add....etc. at the bottom of the dialog box.

I prefer to have it off, saves space in the Personal address book.

For myself I can't really see the usefulness of this function, other than to pick up the odd new address. I prefer to do it manually.:)

Thanks!! It's done and I am happy with the results.

So far I don't need more than one address book as I look folks up by their last name just like I have all my life.

I agree that it is not useful, but a heck of a lot more useful than getting incoming addresses, as it was originally. They saw the light, very quickly. One's address book was full of incoming spam addresses! As for me, I did not make changes out of laziness. Most of the "new" addresses were my own, when I was testing sending to myself.

I have just started using TB a couple of months ago so I didn't realize that setting was defaulted to incoming addresses in older versions. Boy, what a PITA that would be.

I switched from OE to TB because when I updated my CA antivirus to the current version, OE wouldn't shut down properly. The msimn.exe file would hang up and then the computer would not shut down. Had to go into Ctl-Alt-Del and end task, a nuisance to say the least. No problems with TB. CA had no solution for it either.

Not sure what you mean in your first sentence. But, it is easy to uncheck that box, and purge your address book(s) of unnecessary or unwanted addresses.
I spent quite a while last night, consulting with my wife, and deleting addresses which were unknown to both of us. That is why I use multiple address books.
The Personal Address Book was just a stopping point before further organization. Now, it will remain, mostly, empty.

You're right about personal preferences, of course, but I would find multiple address books far more confusing than a single personal address book. It's easier for me to find an address in a single book than it would be to try to remember which book I needed to look in.

Giving each address a simple two- or three-letter nickname simplifies things even further, as that way I neither have to remember the actual address, nor even open the address book (unless, of course, I forget the nickname for the address I want :)).

Even handier is the fact that you can include more than one address in a nickname. I occasionally want to send a single message to all three of my children ... I just type kids in the address line, and all three of their addresses are entered.

You have a point. I was doing the same thing as you, with separate address books.
