    Hi,
I see there's another post in this forum (by: IvanH) about a similar problem but it was not under the same circumstances so that's why I am posting this one...

I am trying to assist someone who has Windows Xp (desktop) using Internet Explorer 7 who's problem started after the modem "appeared" to not be working and recieved a new one (from Verizon)...Every time access is attempted to bring up the Internet the "cannot display web page" error message comes up...The following was done:
    (1) Home page was checked for hijacking > all is okay there
    (2) IP Address checked > normal ip address showing
    (3) Internet Explorer > repair feature done
    (4) Verizon tech support > reset connections on modem
    (5) Winsock appears ok > netsh winsock reset done
    (6) Can not access > other web sites and the Ping method says "Failure "
    (7) DNS Server > with Verizon tech supports assisatance, resetting the dns server status was not possible.

I may have attempted a couple of other steps but at the moment can not recall them and even after searching google, etc for information all attempts appear to be finding no additional steps to take...Any assisatnce will be greatly appreciated...Thank you

Let us know what hardware we're dealing with: especially type of connection, modem, and also computer, etc., and meanwhile try runnung ipconfig /all in a cmd window (type cmd in a run window (Start+r) when you should be online. You can rt-clk the upper left corner of the cmd window and choose edit > select all, enter, and paste into notepad (in case editing is necessary) and into your next post.

    Hi,
Thank you for the xtra tid-bits, I will attempt such as soon as I can...I did try ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew and neither one along with un-plugging the modem (327w model I beleive it was) seemed to make a difference at this point and time...I will post back later with the results of your other suggestions...Thank you

    Hi,
Update...Please add to my previous post that "ipconfig /flushdns" was also done in conjuction with the above list...

Earlier today, the following was done:
    (1) sfc /scannow > successful
    (2) Internet Protocol reset > no problems
    (3) netsh winsock reset (again) > no problems
    (4) netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt > no problems
    (5) Windows Xp Network Diagnostic test > basically reports dns server issues

I am kind of out of options and the only other two steps I did not do was check the firewall and remove Winsock from the Registry...Any assistance still appreciated...Thank you

    Hi,
As I try desperately to find more steps to perform in the hopes of narrowing down or eliminating, I wanted to add the following will be attempted:
    (1) Hosts File
    (2) Manage Add On's
    (3) Services.msc
    (4) Firewall
In the mean time I am also trying to examine as best as I can the Network Diagnostic test results...Thank you and still available for suggestions...

    Hi,
UPDATE...FINAL UPDATE...The owner of the computer experiencing this problem called Verizon again, and todays phone call made the 5th one...Apparently the problem was fixed after the password and a couple of other settings were changed...Which I had done when I called but either way they now have access to the Internet, no more "cannnot display this web page" problem...We can now close this chapter (and get ready for the next one-ha,ha)...Thank you all...
