ie7 hangs after installing

I am running windows XP. I am running IE6. I am up to date on all updates.
I recently installed IE7 & it completed. I was instructed to restart. When I restarted the PC hangs!
I had to reload at a diferent date to rid IE7.
I tried 2 more times. The third time I restarted without 'Startup Programs'. It DID NOT hang but I had to install a previously installed program. I can't 'Restart' without 'Startup Progarma' all the time.
What is wrong?

What was the program you had to reinstall? When you use SR, it will undo program/MS Updates since that restore point.

When you boot up with the startups ticked - I assume this is the Diagnostic msconfig option, any indication of what is not loading? Does it get to the Desktop?

The program I had to reinstall was "IBM Mouse Suite ". Not the 1st time I've had to reinstall it. But, how many other programs will I have to re-install?
I assume SR is "System Restore ". My SR was a day earlier.
I don't know what "is not loading ".
Don't know "does it get to the desktop" It hangs with the screen blank.

I will not "Power on" or "Restart" without "Startup Priograms ".
That is another problem I have. The system "Restart" or "Power On "
is much faster WITHOUT "Startup Programs" (Several Minutes)
I decided that IE7 was too troublesome, will stay with IE6.

 

Unless you have system or hardware problems, sounds like too many startup programs. Software vendors love to have their applications auto start, whether it makes sense or not.

I went to the thread you proposed. I elimated 3 programs out of 368. Then I was asked to pay them $29. I wouldn't do that.
I preformed a 'McAfee Virus Scan' (3 hours).
Downloaded & installed IE7 (SUCESSFUL)
I powerd OFF. (not restarted)
Powered on in 'Safe Mode'.
Message "Internet Explore can't display'
I Restarted
'Windows XP' is on the display.
'Welcome' displayed
Message 'Win 32 Service encountered a problem'. I closed that window.
Message 'Device Monitor encountered a problem' I closed that window.
'AT&T Yahoo' displays in IE7
Seems to be working fine!!!!
DON'T KNOW WHY!!!!!!

 

I spoke too soon!
I 'Powered Off' & later pressed 'Power On Button'.
Same thing happened! Only this time the system went to the log on Icon
loaded the 'Start' button - 'Time' - 2 quick start icons (next to the time).
I tried in 'Safe Mode' & it seemed to work ok. I tried different things & finally did a "Restart to a different time', when IE7 wasn't installed.
IE7 is NOT so much better than IE6 that I will miss IE7.
So I will stay with IE6!

P.S. 'Windows BBS' shows up on my desk top during 'Power Up' sequence so I removed that from my programs.
