SanDisk Cruzer, OCZ Rally, Corsair Voyager. Have heard good things about Patriot (X-Porter is the model I think) as well. If you need to go cheaper, I'd pick up a Kingston.

Just a word of caution on the Corsair Voyagers; the soldering points break easily where the USB connector connects to the chip board inside the rubber casing. We purchased four of them in our IT company and had three broken in about a month, under normal wear and tear. We dissected two of them and found that there is a lot of pressure placed on this solder joint, especially when removing the USB drive from a USB port and/or simply replacing or removing the very snug rubber endcap. There are no other reinforcing points for the USB connector to prevent flexing/bending/breaking damage to the soldered points.

We thought the full rubber casing would be great for preventing damage from dropping and the like, but they seemed to have went cheap on the interior.

    Hi Sportsaholic,

    http://www.newegg.com/

    http://shop4.outpost.com/template/help/index/FE30/Service3/Assistance/Left_Topics/A12ContactUs

    http://www.surpluscomputers.com/store/main.aspx

Three places to look for FD's. They are always on sale at one place or another.

I personally don't pay attention to the brand all that much - I get nothing larger than 512 MB's drives (cheap) and have found that they are fragile and as I mentiond on the linked thread, keep them plugged into a cable and plug the cable in and out. If you want something more elaborate than that, you're going to pay more than 20 USD for it.

The one's I've seen and use, all can be put on a chain.

    Regards - Charles

Most of the flash drives I've ever used came with some sort of proprietary encryption or password protection. Whether or not you choose to use it would most likely be determined by what sort of data and working environment you are in.

If you are putting sensitive info on the flash drive and you work in a very busy work environment, then maybe use your password protection. Just keep in mind, that the password protection is handy to have for when you may have prying eyes from co-workers, although if you misplace or lose your key, people can get access if they really want to. I would recommend not putting passwords and sensitive documents on it unless you plan on moving it onto a more secure directory elsewhere.

Check out this link. It's a list of all OCZ flash drives at newegg. The 1GB OCZ Rally I bought a couple months ago for about $25 is now $17 with an added $5 rebate. The 2GB is $18 after rebate. Both have 5-egg ratings after a statistically large-enough number of reviews. They must be doing something right.

I really like mine. It's fast and it does what it's supposed to do. It is interesting to read some of the expectations people have of these devices:

"the cap is not attached so I'm sure to lose it "
"the color of the indicator lights clashes with my favorite shirt "

When something does exactly what is supposed to do and does it flawlessly, what more could you ask?
