    Hi guys,

    I recently got a new computer but I've been getting some blue screens right after Windows start-up screen (where the Windows XP logo appears). Right after Windows finishes loading up and goes into the log-in screen, i get a very quick blue screen and the system restarts itself. This does not happen every time i start my PC and nothing goes wrong after the first failure, everything starts up normal after that first one.

    I've got this minidump data, that i believe happened about the same time that this issue occured. I did not disable the "automatically restart" button to actually check what the blue screen said but i'll post this dump data and see if you guys can help me.

    P.s. It gets VERY cold where my PC stays and when i look up my temps in BIOS during start up, my CPU/mobo temps are usually below 20ºC. Can this be a factor?

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
    This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
    the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
    as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
    Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
    coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
    /NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
    hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
    If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
    system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

    Hi, renatoop02. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

    Here's a link to an article from the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) with symptoms that seem to match your situation. It's probably best to access Microsoft KB articles with Internet Explorer. I have found other web browsers (such as Firefox) have trouble rendering Microsoft KB web pages properly.
    However, you already have Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed so their suggested fix doesn't appear to apply to you.

    If you want to compare your imapi.sys file with mine (for Windows XP Home SP2), here are the file's properties for my imapi.sys (accessed by right-clicking on the filename in Windows Explorer and selecting "Properties ").
    • Filename: imapi.sys
    • Location: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers
    • Size: 40.8 KB (41,856 bytes)
    • Created: Monday, March 31, 2003, 7:00:00 AM
    • Modified: Wednesday, August 04, 2004, 1:00:15 AM
    • Version: 5.1.2600.2180
    • Description: IMAPI Kernel Driver
    ==========

    Perhaps the extremely low temperatures affect your CD-ROM drive's ability to respond properly during start-up. To isolate the temperature variable, try placing your computer in a warmer room and see if the start-up BSODs persist. If the start-up BSODs stop occurring after placing the computer in a warmer room, then I would say yes, the extremely cold temperature is a factor.

    ==========

    CAUTION: Opening your computer's case might void your warranty. Check with your computer's manufacturer before proceeding with the following suggestion.

    Another possible test to try is to disconnect your CD-ROM drive's data cable and CD-ROM drive's power plug (while the computer is off) and leave your CD-ROM drive disconnected for awhile to see if the start-up BSODs persist or not. If the start-up BSODs stop occurring after disconnecting the CD-ROM drive, then I would suspect your CD-ROM drive hardware, the firmware for your CD-ROM drive, or the driver for your CD-ROM drive. (Firmware and/or driver updates might be available at the CD-ROM drive manufacturer's website.)

    ==========

    Perhaps Event Viewer will provide some more details about the cause of the problem. The information of value (if such information exists) is probably located in the "System" and/or "Security" sections of Event Viewer (detailed instructions below). If you share those Event Viewer details with us, then we might be able to more easily help you determine the fix for your problem.

    ==========

    Another possibility:
    ==========

    Instructions About How to Access and Use "Event Viewer ":

    • Click Start.
    • Right-click My Computer.
    • Select "Manage" to open the "Computer Management" window.
      (Event Viewer will be displayed under the "System Tools" directory item.)
    • Expand "Event Viewer" and then select "Application ", "Security ", and "System" to view the logs.
    • Look for "error" events that occurred around the time your problem occurred. These events will be displayed as icons with either a white X on red background or a black exclamation point on yellow background. In the security section of Event Viewer, events of possible concern are ones that display a padlock icon instead of a key icon.
    • Double-click on an individual event to open the "Event Properties" window which shows details about the event.
      • You can use the up/down arrows in the Event Properties" window to move your focus to other events in the list.
      • Use the button below the up/down arrows to copy the details for an event to your clipboard for pasting elsewhere.
      • Click on the "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp" link in the "Event Properties" window to view more information from Microsoft about the event.

    Here's one Event Viewer problem that i think happened after a BSOD. I will try disconnecting the cd-rom as well and see if that helps. Like i said, this only happens so often and it's usually during the first start-up in the day. I don't think it's a virus because i ran AVG and nothing came up and it's a brand-new PC.

    I also have the same version of your Kernel Driver.

    Since it's a new PC, please take note of the CAUTION in my post above.

    Hardware error

    Hi,

    Your windows is crashed at IRQL x'1c' which is the timer IRQL and this is the symptom of hardware error (ie RAM, CPU or M/B). Almost 50% of system crash at IRQL x'1c' is related to faulty ram. Reseat the memory module may fix the problem. If it still crashes, run memtest to stress test the ram.

    Refer the following problem

    win32k is windows GDI

    FYI

    Your debug report shows that your windows is crashed at win32k.sys which is GDI (Graphical Display Interface). GDI crash is usually related to ram, video card or video card device driver.

    Ran memtest86+ for 35min (completed 1 full pass + 2 tests) with no errors. I haven't got a BSOD here for about 3 days now (it also got hotter after freezing cold temperatures where i live). I'm still not sure what is causing it but I will see if happens again.

    Actually here's another dumb data that I got. My sister actually turned on the PC today in the morning so I'm not sure if she got a BSOD or not. She said everything was fine but you never know. Here it is:

    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
    This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
    the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
    as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
    Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
    coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
    /NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
    hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
    If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
    system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

    It's looking more like bad RAM with this last dump since it's referencing a different file. That's considered a classic indicator of failing RAM. Can you alternately pull half of the RAM or otherwise substitute some known good? Perhaps it's time to contact the vendor...
