Windows Vista Bad Vista Ultimate 64 Disk?

Can anyone out there tell me exactly how many directories, folders and files there's supposed to be on an Ultimate 64 OEM installation disk? I have a brand new OEM disk that seems to be missing some files - and yes - the disk is genuine. Somewhere on MS support site I saw something about a file or folder called Panther, under the Sources directory. My disk does not have it. I'm wondering how many other files I'm missing. I'm trying to install to a new system that is fully Vista compatible and keep getting "No OS on disk - preplace with proper disk and hit any key "

I think that some more details about your Vista capable system would help. Mobo, BIOS, CPU etc..

Any help would be appreciated. This is a brand new system I'm building, and so far, I can't even get the disk to be read.

I can't recall the name of the reseller, and I'm not at the PC in question, but the disk was purchased via eBay from a (supposed) Microsoft reseller. The disk came with full factory seals, labels, holograms, etc. It is very definitely a genuine product. Since it is an OEM version, and having purchased over the net, I doubt I will be able to return it to the reseller. But I don't even want to try until I find out if my suspicions are correct, that maybe it is a bad disk.

I have seen two different types of vista discs, the ones offered at newegg.com for new pc builders and the normal retail one like I purchased at the store.

 

Thanks, all, but I think that I've figured it out. I just found out that an OEM disk requires the prior installation of Microsoft OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK) available at 'http://www.microsoft.com/oem/sblicense/OPK' It's a 983MB file and I'm downloading it right now. If this works, I will post a new reply to let you know.
