changing irq's

most of my cards are on irq 9, how do i change this. my recording interface is conflicting with everything so i get a lot of clicks and pops.

 

try moving your slot cards around on your PC. Most PCI slots have a set IRQ listed with them. So if you change the slot the card is in, it may change the IRQ.
IRQ9 is bad to share because it is the bridge to IRQ 10-15.

my network card and audigy soundcard have been given the same irq. i have tried putting them in different slots and they just conflict anyway. How do you manually change the irq settings as they are greyed out when i try.

 

I would not put full ( or even any ) blame for the problem on the Audio card or the NIC.

Does there just happen to be a PCI Modem in this mix of cards ?

Especially one of the WinModem type.

If so, it may well be causing some conflicts by being locked onto one IRQ and will not allow PCI IRQ steering to work properly.

A PCI modem will stop, prevent, not allow PCI Steering to work properly. And some of them REFUSE to be changed without hours of trial and error work.

I say this as I have yet to see or have an IRQ conflict when a Modem was not involved. And removing the Modem fixed what ones did exist.

I hesitate to suggest that you pull the Modem for testing as it may not go back in and work. Some will and some won't.

But if it don't work a much more relaiable External should. And also dispose of any IRQ problems.

I forgot to add this to the previous reply.

This problems occurs quite often when a PCI Modem is involved and the OS is changed.

For example was 98 and went to XP.

And is deffinetly caused by the Modem and not the OS.

 

no there is no modem. actually the network card and audigy now have different irq without me doing anything. Before I install my tv card ( which might have caused my original problems anyway) does anyone know how to manually change the irq's if i have to. i cant see how to do it in the bios which seems to just allocate automatically.

Well that takes care of the modem problems that I guess was not there in the first place.
