Please excuse my ignorance to this problem I am having.
I am so frustrated at this time I'm ready to throw this PC out of my window.
I am really only a PC user and not knowledgeable enough to understand some of the technical aspects of PC operation.

Please don't beat me up for what ever equipment I have, It's what I have and it's what I've been using since 2004 with no problems.

    Dell 8300
About a month ago I seemed to have some kind of virus problem, so I did all the usual Adware scans, I tried to scan through my McAfee Securitty system, but it seemed I had not renewed my subscription. After renewing and downloading the latest McAfee I started to get all kinds of system operating problems.
Crashes, Freeze ups, and just complete chaos.

I was running Internet Explorer 6 as my internet tool and somehow it stopped working, I was told to download IE7 and things just got worse from there. I removed IE7 and now went back to IE6. IE6 would come up, but no connection to the internet?? Frustrated spoke to an IS guy where I work and he said bring it in. He got the PC operating, but He couldn't get IE to work at all, and now I'm using Firefox/Mozilla internet access, but I still have some issues. I keep getting this pop up box that states the following

"Generic Host Process For Win 32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close "
    It the issues against svchost.exe

I've seen a few on-line fixes, but most go back to 2001 and I'm leery of following those directions as it may not represent what is happening at this time ('07)

Can anybody please give me some direction and help. I'm willing to pay,:D I've already paid $60.00 for my IS guy's time and help.

Hello and welcome to WindowsBBS Forums.

Have you been able to determine that you're actually free and clear of all malware? You didn't really say you were cleaned out, just that you had problems and got updated and all that.

Can you tell us what has been done to the machine thus far, this way we can get a baseline of what course of action we need to go and will avoid repeating things you have done or have paid to do.

Our services here are free, but if you wish to contribute to the site, feel free to do so via the 'Become a contributing member' link in your signature.

Once we get the info asked for above we'll proceed with a course of action.

TeMerc thanks for you interest in my problem. This is what I have done so far, I did a Defrag which took 6 hours a Disc Clean, Ad-Aware 6.0 Virus scan and a McAfee virus Scan. I also used Registry Cleaner 2.5 which I also paid for. Seems like the Generic Host Process has subsided at least on my side. Please also note this PC is being used by 2 other people who have their own desktops. Since I posted earlier, the PC was shutdown and now My Screen apperance is al pixilated and kind of flashes from a yellowish to normal look, I also realized I have no sound and when going to my basic Audio settings, everything looks fine. There's a hum when I turn uo the volume, but nothing is playing from any site that I may frequent.

Beleive me if you guys can help I will make a contribution to this site!

I don't know what else to tell you, Is there something I can provide you to see what's going on with my PC and how would I go about getting that info to you??

    Help is greatly appreciated!!

Have you tired using system restore to achieve some normalcy?

Lets get a quick HiJackThis! log file to see whats going on. Run it on the main user account.

Download HijackThis! SetUp from here. Save the file to your desktop.

Double-click the HijackThis! SetUp icon to begin the installation. Follow the prompts for the default install location of:'C:\Program Files\HijackThis'. Tick the 'Create a desktop' button when the option appears. Select next, then allow HijackThis! to start.

Then press the [Scan] button. You will notice the [Scan] button will turn into a [Save Log] button. Click the [Save Log] button and notepad will open up with the contents of the scan. Right-click in the saved log, and select 'copy'. Then proceed to your original thread, unless otherwise instructed and click the '[Reply]' button and paste the saved contents to be reviewed. Do not make any modifications to the log or perform any 'fixes' until told to do so.

Definitely got a few nasties there. Lets get a scan from AVG Anti-Spyware and run a special tool, FixWareout.

Please do as instructed below in the order presented.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
    Subratam
    Bleeping Computing

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once rebooted please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log file into this thread.
If you get a file output similar to below:
Go here and run the fix appropriate to your version of Windows:

    http://www.tech-forums.net/computer/topic/29806.html

    Then re-run Fixwareout please, thanks.

Then Download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
    • Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
    • Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
    • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the [Start Update] button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine ".
    • Under "Reports "
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan "
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found "
Close AVG anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

Reboot, into safe mode, this way:
    • Turn on the computer
    • Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key.
    • Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the <Enter> key.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process.

Launch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
    • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan ".
    • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
    • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions "
    • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    • Select the [Save report as[ button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
    • Close AVG and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG report scan, as well as a fresh HJT log file.(Please edit out any cookie, Recyler and System Volume Information Folder references)

This is the AVG Scan report. I deleted all tracking cookie refrences. I suspect that's what you meant by "edit out any Cookie, Recyler and System Volume "

So far the box that had been flashing
"Generic Host Process For Win 32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close" Has not come up, but I still have some existing problems?

#1 AOL starts up by itself while I am on any internet site
#2 The appearance of my screen is still poor. My desktop has icons on a blank black background and there are flashes of blue pixilated squares all over the screen that flicker as if something is running in the background
#3 I have no audio sound
#4 Windows Messenger and AOL AIM pops up as soon as I boot up the PC

OK, I wasn't expecting you to be all cleaned up as there are still a few nasties on board.

I need to see the FixWareout text log please.

Download the Killbox from here and save it to the desktop.
    • Double-click the KillBox icon on your desktop to open it
    • Select "Delete on Reboot "
    • Then select "All files ".
Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpcc.dll

    Return to Killbox
    • Go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard ".
    • Click the red-and-white [Delete File] button.
    • Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the 'Pending Operations' prompt.

Do not allow a reboot as yet.

Open Hijackthis, select the [Do a system scan only] button and look over the following entries I have listed, check the boxes [] next to them and press the [Fix Checked] button. When you are doing this, make sure you have No IE windows, nor any other browsers open, including this one. Reboot if I have specified below, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

Okay I have to apologize for some of my previous details.

It appears I can't get the PC to run in SAFE MODE
As I have stated the Apperance of my PC is all ******* up, because of this, when I tap F8 and get to the screen which asks to choose a mode to open in it is all jumbled up. The arrow does cause a highlighted cursor to move up and down, but the "Safe Mode" I selected was actually "Safe Mode with Networking "
I moved the cursor to a Highlighted area that did not highlight anything that I could read, but there was something on that line. When I selected that blank area, I did notice that highlighted below was "Safe Mode" but it then went to a screen that stated "Windows has confronted a problem and had to shutdown" or something to that effect.

SO it appears I cannot open in Safe Mode
This is the last Hijack report I have

Ok, the log appears clear, but I'd like to get some more info, just to be certain.

As for the monitor display, how long has it been like that? Had you run any system utilities, such as System File Checker or ChkDsk? If not I would run those after this next set of instructions.

Running those two may also solve your display problem, but I'm not sure.

    Please download SilentRunners from here

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it. If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
Silent Runners will ask if you want to skip the supplementary search.
Please select 'No' to include them.
Then select 'Yes' to confirm the search.
When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.

Please post the entire contents of this logfile created back into this thread for me to see. Also let me know how the system utilities ran if you run them.

Could not find whre the Logfile is saved??

Seems like the PC is running better.
#1I still have problems with AOL starting up by itself. Seems like this happens only when I go to MYSPACE.

Still have the bad apperance of my Monitor and no sound. I tried to creat sounds through "Device Manger ". I checked all connections and even re-loaded my Soundblaster LIVE! CD No audio???
Here are some pics of the apperance during my attempt to run in Save Mode.

This pic shows the Safe Mode Highlighted, but there was no letters showing as you can see the format of the words are all jumbled
    [IMG]

This is a pic of the screen that came up after I selected Safe mode and hit
    enter

Ok, for Silent Runners, move it into its own folder and run it from there.

For the sound and vid, go back to device mgr and uninstall all related drivers, then reboot.

Also check your connections to the monitor be sure all is snug at each end.
