I am very new to Thunderbird, but I can't seem to figure out how to set the default font for display/composing in Thunderbird. Currently, when I print out a message, the font is much smaller than I want it to be but I don't know how to change it. Thanks for any help.

Font sizes used by TB are set in Tools > Options > Display > Fonts > Fonts. You'll probably have to play around with the settings to find what suits you best, but the most important one seems to be "Minimum font size ". Using a display resolution of 1280x1024, I find that 17 pixels across the board works best for me.

When printing a message, you can change the scale of the printing by selecting "Print Preview" (drop-down arrow on the "Print" button). Note that, after changing the scale, both the preview window and the message must be closed. The change will take place when the message is re-opened.

Thank you. I changed the font size to 17 and that seems to be about right. How do I get the default font changed from Times Roman to Arial? I see both of them in the menu, but there is not an option to mark one as the default? Thanks.

These are my settings. I realize that it doesn't make any sense to set Arial as a Serif font, but it works. Just select the font you want from the drop-down menus.

I tried your suggestion, but Arial does not show up as a choice in the "serif" options. But, I think I finally figured it out. I changed the first option from serif to sans serif, and as long as Arial is picked as the sans serif option, it seems to work. I guess I just didn't play around with it enough before I gave up. Thanks for all your help. It seems to be working now.

As far as I know, all installed fonts appear in the Serif, Sans-serif, and Monospace windows. If you scroll down about half-way in each window, you'll see a line separating Serif from Sans-serif fonts (and vice versa), and Proportional from Monospace fonts.

Any font can be selected, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will work. :) You just have to play with the settings until you find ones that work for you.

Thanks, Jim. You are right. I just didn't go down far enough.
