    Hi All,

I regularly work from home and use a Juniper VPN client to connect to my office network.

When the VPN is activated, i lose the home connectivity meaning i cant access the internet etc anything that is outside the office VPN....the office VPN is running fine but i cant browse the internet through the office VPN since its blocked on it.

When i disconnect the VPN, i can again browse the internet.

I think the VPN reroutes the default gateway to itself and releases when it disconnects.

I am using Windows Xp Pro on my machine.

Is there a way to have both Office VPN access and home gateway access simultaneously? (i have thought of using a Virtual PC setup and isolating the VPN in the Virtual OS there but VPC is slow and hogs resources)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

What you are observing is standard good practice with VPN. One of the vulnerabilities possible with VPN is that in giving a remote user VPN access, you also provide an unprotected/unmonitored route out to the internet. That is, potentially there is very little to prevent malicious code from the internet using the VPN as a backdoor into the company network.

The simplest way to block this is to force all network traffic to go over the VPN and prevent traffic leaking out to the internet.

I would recommend that you discuss the problem with your network administrator. They should be able to allow a route from the network end of the VPN, out to the internet through the normal company firewall system. This will give you internet access (though a little slowed) while you are connected to the VPN, without compromising the company's network security.
