Using SeaMonkey 1.1 and XP PRO and Windows firewall I am unable to connect to secnews.netscape.com using port 563 and SSL checked--I get the attached error and in Preferences/privacy and security/SSL I have the Enable SSL version 3 checked also Enable TLC. I have the same settings in Mozilla Suite 1.7.8 and have no problem. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

    quickshot,

The secnews.netscape.com NG is being phased out; however, it takes some doing in order to be able to access those Newsgroups. The new newsgroup is that Mozilla is encouraging users to use: news.mozilla.org

If you want to use secnews.netscape.com, this is what you need to do:

    Clear the Location Bar
Enter in the blank field: about:config

In the "Filter" field enter: security.enable_ssl2
Next: right click the value of false, and select "toggle "
This will change the setting to "true "

Follow the same procedure for this setting: security.ssl3.rsa_rc2_40_md5

Keep the SSL Server Setting enabled.

Close Mail & Newsgroups, and the Browser. The settings should allow you to select NG's.

I had no newsgroups in SeaMonkey, and I just followed the above procedure. I found that I had to open and close SM several times, and I had to "Subscribe" to newsgroups several times for the settings to be retained.

BTW, the new Newsgroups (news.mozilla.org) is not a secure newsgroup and it isn't necessary to enable SSL.

    Ramona,
Thanks for the links and the information on about.config. Changings the settings did the trick. In the Mozilla Suite it must be a default setting.
