Read as much as I can after doing search. Couldnt find answer so here it is.

    Equipment:

Cable > cable modem > Router> wired pc main to 3 wired comps and 1 wireless.

Router is Netgear WGT624 v3. Wireless is netgear wg311T pci adpt.

all 5 comps run xp home. Four comps are wired. 5th one is less then 10 feet from router. Drivers updated also. Only major thing that changed was I installed Norton 2006 on all wired comps, then was going to do same on wireless , but had to uninstall norton 2000 first. So I did that. Thats when I noticed I lost the connection.

Now. In the windows network connections status box, it shows green signal, in but, only 4 to 8 packets. Cant run repair, says cant get IP address. Tried using direct cable hookup also *(built in NIC connection) but wont connect.

Tried different channels, disabled security, and did it aslwell with password. It was set up with a WEP just fine before. Tried disable firewall in both main and 5th pc. Other comps work fine. I do not show a icon in network connections where i use to have one says Internet Gateway.

Tried different channels as well. The wireless program, Netgears, sjhows signal in yellow connected at 54kbs, ive got 108 setup. My router shows somethngs connected but no name. Gives MAC addy, but no IP address. Like i said, I try to do a repair, cant renerw IP address.

Emailed Netgear, 3 days go by, tell me to call.. on hold half hour, gave call back number, havnt heard back, been 5 days.

Any other info please let me know.

    Thank you all.

So, all things started since you uninstalled the norton 2000, right?

Can I just make a assumption that it corrupted the "network driver" while you uninstalled the norton 2000?

I used the term of "network driver" because meant that were some files of the network component in your windows xp home.

I'd like to recommend you reinstall the network component before you trying them again.

I removed the built in Ethernet driver, disabled it in the bios, removed the wireless card, uninstalled softwear for it.

    Re-installed the softwear
    shut down,installed card
    restart, set it up
still shows it talking to the main comp but wont go further then that.

I checked Nortons options, all seems well.

As I understand your networl layout, you have a cable moden connected to a router and a main comp connected to the router and other comps connected to the main comp?

This will always cause trouble because to do so means that you use Internet Connection Sharing on the main comp. Best to just connect all comps to the router directly.

The cable modem is connected to the router. I have a 4 port router that can also handle up to several "wireless" connections as well.

All these computers are connected to the router. Only one of the 5 is wireless.

    Hi Basstracker

Have used LinkSys routers and currently use Netgear WGT624, which has 4 device ports and built in WIFI. Have been using it for over a year and love it. What I enjoy most is any view which has an configuration option, all the details to what and how are included in the view... very user friendly.
    First question..
When you say you have "No connection ".
Is this for all connected computers? Wired and / or WIFI?
IF all, an easy way to to determine if it's router or computer is removing the router OUT of the circuit.
The following "startup approach" generally is not necessary, but just to get fresh views try the following.
    Power down ALL computers
Power down router (remove power cord from router). Also REMOVE the cable connection FROM modem that connects TO the router.
Power down cable modem (remove power cord from modem).
    WAIT 5 minutes
Power up modem - WAIT 5 minutes
Modem SHOULD be showing "Ready" or activity light(s).
    IF yes ......
    Choose your favorite "wired" computer.
Go to NIC card and follow ethernet cable end to the router. Remove that end of cable attached to router and "INSERT" into the modem where router was previously connected.
    NOW power up this computer.
    Do you get connected?

    Update

Thanks all for the suggestions. I guess what didnt dawn on me because I hve never had to use it, but I did a System Restore. That got me back to where all was working.

Then, little by little I removed what was left over of Norton 2000 since the uninstall would not work. Might of been a mistake, but I also removed entries into the Reg file.

All is sorta fine now. Except System Restore wont work. I get a "blank" page. Tried to reinstall the SR.INI, but tells me each time I use the XP CD says it cant find the files to replace. Been doing research on it, seems such a pain in the rear. Might just never worry bout it again and hope all stays good lol.

    Thanks again.
