I have been controlling and downloading of my Sony DV Camcoreder using Firewire for a couple of years now. The other it stopped working. When I switch on the camcorder it pops up in the control panel but says Code 39 corrupt or missing driver. When I delete the driver it comes back again when i switch the camera on and off. I didn't install it in the first place. Microsoft seems to have picked it up. Any suggestions as to were i can get the drivers from?

Thanks for the post. I work in the AV industry and have never found a good site for Sony...until now.

Unfortunatley it doesn't have a driver for the firewire just the USB??? which my camera doesn'y have but I will load it just in case there are some similar drivers.

You're welcome. Let us know how it goes. If it doesn't help, post the camera model number and maybe we can find more for you.

I was just reading recently that drivers should not(!) be required for a video recorder (camcorder) connection in Win XP. If it says there is a problem, look at drivers higher up the "tree ". I suppose Firewire would be controlled by the main motherboard/chipset drivers. Look for updates for the chipset drivers or even try reinstalling from the drivers CD that came with the computer (Everest in my signature may help identify the hardware/chipset if you need it).

Check that there may not be a problem with the "video software" you are using (uninstall and reinstall the recording software).

From what I have read, it should be "basic" for Windows. Something has interferred with that...higher level drivers or some type of interferring software.

When you say you "deleted the driver ", there should be a Firewire Controller driver listed (1394 from memory because I don't have a firewire system running at the moment). Try uninstalling the Firewire Controller, it will be automatically reinstalled at reboot.

Aside: Hi Mike :) Hope things have been going well for you.

    Hi Matt,

For the most part, everything is going okay. Mainly, crazy busy with kid's sporting events and trying to thaw out from a week + of below zero temps. :( At least we don't have the 11 feet of snow like upper NY state has.

When I first connected my camcorder a couple of years ago I didn't have to do anything. XP picked it up.

The firewire card and drivers are fine, or atleast they work with my other firewire devices.

When I plug in the camcorder it creates a new entry in the device manger list under Imaging devices. It is this that was OK to start with but now has an exclamation mark against it and says the drivers are corrupt. It is also here, under the driver tab that I uninstalled the driver.

I tried using the usb drivers but they are completely different somy next try will be to delete from the drivers folder.

Rather annoyingly my laptop has a firewire card but it is the small connector on the laptop as well as on the camera and my cables are all big to small, to use the technical terms. I will get a small connector cable at the weekend.
