I am running Win XP PRO and have Windows Firewall enabled as well as the
CA Anti Virus Version 8.3.0.2 with Real time protection and email
protection enabled. When using Mozilla Suite 1.7.8 everything is fine, I
can send and receive emails with a saved password but when I run
SeaMonkey 1.1 the browser runs fine but can not send or receive emails
unless I disable email scanning. I leave my firewall enabled as it is not
blocking it. There are no settings in the Anti Virus program to allow or
block and as I said all works fine with the Mozilla Suite. I use
separate profiles for each and the same settings on the server setting.
It does the same if I create a new profile and install Thunderbird. Any
ideas? I have no virus or Trojans as I ran a complete scan and run
BOClean active and AdAware,SpyBlaster and CCleaner.

    quickshot,

Using an antivirus scanner to scan your email is not necessary if the scanner is also configured for autoprotect/real time protection. Email scanning, like autoprotect/real time protection, is only as good as the most recent virus definitions. Any good up-to-date anti-virus will prevent you from opening a
malicious worm or virus no matter how it arrived. Until, and unless, you open the attachment the virus or worm will not execute. Email scanning also slows down your send and receives as it scans each message, and in your case, disables send and receive. Also, scanning your outbound mail won't prevent viruses that use their own SMTP from sending mail. In addition, e-mail scanning isn't compatible with accounts using SSL.

Some older antivirus scanners change the mailserver names to "localhost" or similar names, and cause problems sending and receiving messages.

Thanks for the reply. Am not using SSL and am using the same settings in Mozilla as in SeaMonkey and it just bugs me one works but not the other. It does not change the SMPT. I do have the anti virus full time and active and run the BOClean full time so I guess I could disable the email scanner.
