When i log onto windows xp, there is a small blue square that appears in the top right hand corner of my desktop. I can drag it around the desktop but nothing happens when i right click it or double click it. What is it for and is there any way i can get rid of it?
    Thanks,
    an help would be appreciated.

Since it does nothing when you double click it, I will rule out Poker playing for you. 1.2 million possibilities?

I always suspect some malware in cases like this. Are you clean? Post a HJT log in the Security forum if you have doubts.

Right click on the desktop>properties>desktop>customize desktop button>web tab. If there's anything in the box under web pages that has a check mark by it, un-check it.

    Hey Gentlemen

    You too Zander!:)

That is a Windows XP NameSpace, from an improperly removed program or a flakey uninstaller. These are special and used by such things as Recycle Bin and My Documents etc.

    It is harmless to leave.

But to remove will require searching the registry for namespace. There will be many but look for the one that is located here

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

There will be one for the recycle Bin, MyDocs etc. The one you want to remove will be empty.
