I've deleted Norton Anti Virus from XP, But it's still listed in the "add/remove programs ". I conducted a search in "files and folders" and found nothing. I then searched "hidden folders" and found one file which I deleted. Norton is still listed in "add/remove programs ". Any ideas? Thanks.

The symantec site will allow you to download a removal tool that deletes " all traces" quote unquote...of Norton... They have almost had to do this since their product continuously needs reinstalled (oops is my opinion showing again)... In any event download the removal tool and then just do a search or check that all the symantec folders are gone from program files and you should be ok...ckl

Sorry but that isn't going to get it. One will find additional files under each user profile, all users, Program Files > Common and a whole bunch of registry keys. "Deleting " Norton is about the last thing one wants to do - it should be uninstalled and then one has to search out all of the other locations where it is resident and the same applies to the registry. You will also have Live Update and Live Reg issues to deal with.

lbfoto: Whats the scoop - did you actually use "delete " to try to remove this or is that just the way you worded your post?

    ;)

This statement is absurd and really does not offer any real advice, rather an opinion. You would be well served to ignore it completely.

The uninstallers work quite nicely, used them many times. The other bits of advice are good points also.

Thats all well and good. I used every uninstaller going yet I was never able to fully rid my system of nav until one uninstaller corrupted the registry so badly that I had to format and reinstall. When you say it is absurd that must mean you are 100% sure that no traces remain. I would think that in itself is absurd

No sir, what I mean was that your statement, on its face is absurd, plain and simple. All your comment did was to offer an opinion, not offer any help to the OP.

And if you read my comment entirely, which it appears you didn't, you would have seen that I recommended the OP follow the other suggestions, because not all uninstallers are perfect. Yes, Symantec (as can McAfee, they too have a special uninstaller, which was just updated over the weekend) can indeed be chided for the poor performance of theirs, but to suggest a reformat is just bad advice plain and simple.

bbbobins link to Mike Flynn's post in another thread (need to link from the one posted to another) is a pretty good procedure. Here's another link one can follow that will do the trick too.
