Windows Installer 3.1 error

Folks,

I am running windows XP SP2 on a ASUS MB/ ATHLON chipset computer. My computer has attempted to download Win Installer 3.1 a dozen or so times now. I have tried changing /system/catroot2 to /system/catroot2old to check and see if it is a corrupted file there but to no avail.



I would appreciate any help you can give as searches on Microsoft have proven fruitless.

Amended to add following information from winlog for latest restart.

does that mean you have what you need? i found the article by going into IE then in search typed--(windows installer 3.1 redistributable). when i got there i clicked "overview" to read about the problems hope you got it fixed
