Can anyone explain why, occasionally, all of my stored cookies seem to be wiped?

I do a regular Spybot cleanup and that is configured to save my chosen few. That always works well, as you would expect, and, as far as I am aware, has never wiped out any 'protected' cookies.

    Hello Alan,

Have you upgraded to IE7 recently?

Wiping programs that have handled IE6, have trouble with IE7's cookies.

I've changed your thread title to indicate the problem.

    Regards - Charles

No, still on IE6. Happened couple of times since I upgraded recently, (I know, very late!) to SP2, and once or twice in SP1 days over the last couple of years, which I had dismissed as 'finger' trouble at the time.

The only other possible change might be that I have just installed, (whisper it quietly!), Opera but I thought that had a separate area in the same way the Firefox does.

All very strange - it's a pain to have to login and reinstall details and so on.

The times it's happened ... have they been when you've run Spybot ?

Now that you mention it, the answer has to be 'yes'.

Is there perhaps an issue with Spybot?

I'm not sure if it's an "issue" ... but Dytrog's probably right ... it might be something in the settings.

I've found that programs who's function it is to "remove" things often have a will of their own.
I had the same problem with CCleaner.

alanrf, in Spybot on the main screen, go to Settings>Ignore Cookies and put a check mark in the box next to the cookies you want to keep. This way when Spybot does it's thing it will not clean out those cookies. You can usually tell which cookies you have info in by their name which is similar to the internet URL. For example: one for this BBS looks like this: "Cookie:user@windowsbbs.com ". Put a check mark beside it to save the user info for the Windows BBS.:)

Other cleaner programs usually have a similar way of ignoring cookies you want to keep. You will just have to look through the options in each program to find it.

Edit: I read back through this thread and see you have already looked at this, oh well, can't hurt to look again.
