It has recently been in the news that the government has changed the dates for switching to Daylight Savings Time. I'm running Win 98SE and have, for years, had it set to automatically update the clock for DST. Apparently that won't work anymore. Does anyone know if there is a software patch for 98SE that will reenable that function?

    Welcome to the Windows BBS.

Unfortunately Microsoft does not support Win98 any more so there will be no "official" patch for the DST issue. You can however install the Windows 98 Resource Kit Tools from your Win 98 install CD (if you still have it). Insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive, navigate to the \Tools\Reskit\ directory and run the "setup.exe" file from there. This will install the "Sample Tools" kit and put an entry into your Start>Programs>Windows 98 Resource Kit.

Your have to use the Win98 version of the Time Zone Editor.

If you don't have your Win 98 CD, try to beg, borrow or steal one. Also there are some Win 98 versions of the tzedit.exe file on the net to download, altho' I am not sure they all will work plus the chance of nasties in them.

Open the Tools Management Consule and under "Configuration Tools" double click the "Time Zone Editor ".

Click on your Time Zone (probably will be highlited)
    Click on "Edit "

You can adjust your DST settings from here.

Set Start Date/Time for Second Sunday in March
Set End Date/Time for First Sunday in November

Click on OK and close your way out.

    That should do it.:D

You can test it by changing your computer time to March 11, 2007, 01:59 AM, wait for one minute and the time should change from 02:00 to 03:00 and give you the notification that it has changed to DST. Don't forget to change your date/time back to current after the test.

    It worked for me!!

If the days are different next year, just repeat the process with the new days.

    Ain't governments wonderful:eek:

Hi Bill, that looks like a really simple way to do the DST thing. Haven't tried it myself as I have already used the Time Zone Editor in Windows 98 ResKit.

If anyone tries IntelliAdmin patch, let us know how it works.:)

    Thanks to All

Especially to JohnB. I have a shoe box which contains all of my original program disks. I rummaged through it and, sur enough, there was the original 98SE CD. I followed your procedure step by step and IT WORKED!! Problem solved. Thanks again to everyone for the help.

    Don

Not too well. On my ME PC, after the patch, times don't change to PDT until after until March 13, 2007 00:00
