After extensive cleaning out ofa trojan virus, it has left my system in a bit of a mess. I can not right click on most files. Basic functions on XP just don't work or exsist. I was following another forum which took me though the cleanup of my system which worked great. No more pop ups. It appeared the person was left with the same issues as I am. It was suggested to start>run sfc /scannow but I have no run on my start menu..... what do I do ????? Please help. Also many administration functions are not accesable. Access is denied.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to see if the Task Manager will come up. If so click on FILE > NEW TASK > and type the command sfc /scannow into the field and click OK. Be prepared to supply your XP install media.

    function missing

:( I appreciate the reply. The control/alt/delete function is restricted by the administrator. That is the window that pops open when I attempt this function. Is there another way ???

I guess it won't be anytime soon that you'll be following the step by step instructions given to someone else for what may have been a very similar but very different problem on their computer. I'm certainly not condemning you and, as to your approach - there's a lot to be learned by following posts for similar problems. Unfortunately, it sounds like you now find yourself in a pickle.

At this point, it may be advisable to do a Repair Install and you don't have a lot of other options. I'd wait to see what Surferdude2 might have up his sleeve but you've got an interesting dilemma on your hands.

    ;)

    cleaning up the mess

Hi Rockster2u. Tks for the reply on this and your input. I have considered running the windows fix on my system, but would like to hear if there is any other way of doing this first. To be honest, it scares me to even put the windows cd in my pc....that might sound strange, but true.
This all is a result of a hard drive going bad on me, and of course the sector that got corrupt was where windows was, so my system would not boot.
After installing a new hard drive, re-installing windows, and fighting for a week to load all the drivers and programs back in, almost complete. I had decided to download and install a newer version of Nero...which installed perfectly, untill I opened the keygen.exe program and that's when all the fun started. Attached was a Q-HOST virus...which after removal and now my pc is working perfectly, left with these odd admin. problems etc as mentioned above. This macine is a work horse for me. I'm not much of a gamer and depend on this pc for my main income, so when things go wrong, man....I go crazy. LOL....
I'm pretty much happy now with a lot of help on another forum which brought me to this forum to finish up with my issues.
That pretty much sums up what's happened to me here. I know I'm not alone.
Maybe this will help determin what might have happened to my system.

thanks again for all the input. Much appreciated to all. :)

Try creating a new User Identity with Administrative privileges and logging in under it.

To get a run window, use the windows key (between ctrl and alt on the left bottom row) like a shift and do winkey-r.
