I have noticed since since my install 3 days ago that my hd vista install was 7gb. Now it has risen to 8.5gb. I assume that this is a rise from downloaded updates and such and possibly even configuration savings. I have not installed any programs at all. I noticed this with xp but not as much so fast. The accumulation of data on the hd will eventually eat up all your room especially if you have a small drive.

A couple more possible culprits would be the indexing service and maybe system restore. I don't know how much space indexing the drive takes as I have never used it in XP but my guess is that it could be a fair amount of space. System Restore? Well, I needn't say much about that one. :)
