My CD (with 1 yrs worth of data) now loads with less than what should be on there.

Since the CD is not re-writable, I know that the data is there.

Can anyone recommend a program, free or shareware, that will allow me to peek at the data and move it onto my hard drive?

(I got a weird message the last time I wrote to it but I didn't write it down. I'm using Drag'n Drop CD.)

    Thanks in advance -- ML

I know this won't solve your problem, but here it goes: the information recorded on CD-Rs and DVD-Rs can degrade if the discs are scratched or exposed to sunlight. Even carefully-handled discs can suffer data degradation after a few years, especially the cheapest brands. Other possible cause for your problem is the fact that some CD drives have problems reading discs recorded on other drives, especially older models.

    Recovery Programs
This one found most of what I wanted to recover.PC Inspector File Recovery (freeware)
    http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm

This one found more Active@ File Recovery http://www.file-recovery.net/ It has a demo you can download to see what files it can recover. The demo will only recover files up to 32 KB. If the files are bigger you will need to buy the program.

By the way if you are using digital camera PC Inspector Smart Recovery is great for recovering photos off your memory cards and it is freeware. http://www.pcinspector.de/smart_media_recovery/uk/welcome.htm
