Can't change read only access on a folder

One of my directories has become 'read only' without me doing so.
I can change it back to normal. But it instantly reverts to read only.
I am only user and have full access.
Any suggestions?

 

That's normal in XP. All of your folders will be marked read only. It should have no ill effects on the system though. That's just the way it is. Nothing you can do about it. Is there a problem of some sort that you that you think this may be the cause of?

 

I am trying to convert some .tp files to .wmv and my software keeps telling me that it can't write to that folder. These are huge (12GB) video files

Someone thought that my problem could be to my file structure (FAT? doesn't allow huge files).

 

Well, if you're using FAT32 for a file system, that's correct. FAT32 only supports up 4GBs when it comes to file size. If they are larger than that, you need an NTFS formatted partition or drive.

 

Thanks. That helps. Up until recently my biggest files have been for video editing home movies, and they've all fit on a DVD. Recently, I started capturing HDTV over the air and my video files are huge. My goal is convert some TV shows to format that I can watch on a PDA while on treadmill. The problem is the starting files are so big.

I've huges partition magic in the past, I'll see if that can solve the problem. Unless you have other suggestion.

oops, I just checked by hardrive and it is already NTFS. I'll try my conversion again.

So XP makes everything read only? Is that a bug or a 'feature'?
