A few months ago I installed IE 7 on my newest PC. It's OK, I guess. I just recently installed it on one of my older PCs. The first time I started IE 7 after the reboot, I was asked to make some settings choices. There was one, I forget exactly what it was called, that said it would make the text webpages appear clearer. I thought, "What the heck, that sounds good ", so I selected that. Well, now I'm having second thoughts on having made that selection. I've looked through the settings, but I don't see where I can undo this "clearer" thing. Anyone know? Thanks.

Right click on the desktop>properties>appearance>effects. Where it says use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts, select standard. If that doesn't get you what you want, you can try unchecking the line. I don't know if that's any different than the standard setting or not but you can give it a try to see.

Thanks for the info. I went back and looked at my first PC which I had upgraded to IE 7. That one has "standard" set for the option you described. The PC in question did not have the box checked. I tried both "standard" and "Clear Type" for that option on this PC. I really can't tell any difference. Also, the text in IE 7 webpages on the first PC looks pretty much the same as the PC in question. Sigh. I guess I just hadn't noticed it on the first PC. I have one other PC still running IE 6. I brought up this page in it. The text in that page is just easier for me to read (as it was on this PC before I upgraded to IE 7). Oh well.

    cleartype

You will notice a difference between standard and cleartype only if you are using an LCD screen, You won't see a difference on a CRT.

    Hello hp-ase,

Not my experience. It may be related to the quality of the Monitor.

Well, I'll keep all this in mind when I get an LCD monitor.

ClearTweak. For those that would like even more control over clear type fonts. It's freeware. I've used it for a long time. It works.
