How can I put sone of the folder together so I don't have 2 and 3 rows of names on my all programs menu?

Don't know if you are interested or not in this idea, but here is what i did>>> Right click the start button, select Properties, start menu, click on Customize, then Advanced, Scroll down the Start Menu Items until you see Scroll Programs and put a check in the box. You will then have your Start Programs all in one long list instead of three!

I'd like to suggest that you try the Classic Start Menu. It's much cleaner, and easier to understand than XP's default "Luna" look.

As tomxp suggested, right-click on the Start button and select Properties. Now, select Classic Start menu and click on Customize.

You can play with the various settings to see what you prefer, but I'd start by checking Enable dragging and dropping and Show Small Icons in Start Menu, and UNchecking Use Personalized Menus.

If you're really interested in customizing your Start Menu, you might want to take a look at a tutorial about customizing the Windows GUI. It's written with Win9x in mind, but much of it carries over to the Classic view of XP.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

This is what I did. Use Windows Explorer and select>>

    C>Documents and Settings>All Users>Start Menu.

In Start Menu, create folders such as Communications, Entertainment, Games, Utilities etc.

Now Cut & Paste your shortcuts from "Programs" to an appropriate folder for example, Yahoo Messenger to Communications and MusicMatch to Entertainment.

You should now have access to any of your programs via:

    Start>>All Programs>>
    eg
    Start>>All Programs>>Entertainment>>MusicMatch.
    Get the idea ?.

You should also be aware that there are probably items in both "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu" and in "C:\Documents and Settings\<your userID>\Start Menu ".
If you are the only user of your computer you can copy all or most of them to the "All Users" section.

If you have other users on the computer who shouldn't have access to some of the applications you can just keep those icons in the <your userID> section.
