Sounds strange to me. If a website needs payment for registration they will ask for a credit card prior to access.

You cant be charged with fraud unless you used a credit card that didn't have your name on it. At least thats to the best of my knowledge. I believe that fraud is paying or presumption of paying under false pretenses, not only that but they would have to prove that it was you.

Email their help desk and say that you where browsing and that you have no interest in using their services at this time. Ensure that you attach the email you received.

It doesn't sound legitimate to me. Frankly, I wouldn't bother responding and I think I would set up a filter to block them. You are not guilty of fraud in any way, shape or form. If you wish to contact them as the previous poster suggested, his advice sounds reasonable. You might also (if you wished to contact them) tell them that you are contacting the police and advising them of the situation. It would be interesting to see their reaction. But me...? I wouldn't even bother with them.

It's a scam, do not send them any info at all if you did not specifically sign up for the service.

It sounds just like the scam site pocornDOTcom which did the same thing to users, after accepting a 'trial' of their service, users were bullied into paying. They just recently got smacked by the FCC, see here

Ignore them, better yet, tell them you're going to send the email and all related info to the proper authorities.

Then see what they say.

I agree! Ignore them. I wouldn't even contact them and tell them I was reporting it to the proper authorities. I'd just report them and forget about them. Just my two cents worth.

Oh, I removed your email address and phone number from your first post. I don't know if they were correct or not but I think it best you don't leave them exposed on any web page. The email addy being there is almost a sure invite for spam. The phone number; who knows what.... ;)

thanks, i am so fed up with the emails i sent them this...

Hello Mr Karger,

After receiving your e-mail this morning, i decided to do some investigating, and, apparently alot of browsers on your site have received similar e-mails. I have spoken to AOL live help about the matter and they say you could force money out of me via my I.P Address, as each time AOL users log in and out the address changes. This, is apparently similar to a scam by popcorn.net, see here for details, http://www.infoworld.com/article/07...world.com/article/07/01/12/HNmovieland_1.html

I live next door to a Police Man and he said this was a scam, i am not frauding you, as i have given you no credit card details, but infact you are attempting to fraud me. If i receive one more e-mail requesting payment for a sevice i did not use, i have been told by the policeman and AOL to report you to the proper authorities, and you business could be closed down.

I hope you have read this and understand what could happen.

Thanks for reading and i hope you do what you know is right. Once again, thankyou.

should it work?

That should get their attention. Tho you may want to make one minor correction:
I have spoken to AOL live help about the matter and they say you could force money out of me via my I.P Address, as each time AOL users log in and out the address changes.
Should be:
I have spoken to AOL live help about the matter and they say you could not force money out of me via my I.P Address, as each time AOL users log in and out the address changes.

In the mean time, I have posted to their SiteAdvisor ratings:
http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/starmsg.com/

I encourage you to do the same thing, seeing as you're the user in question. It just takes a minute or two to sign up.
