    My problem is that when I tried to start Outlook Express this morning I got this error message: "Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLLcould not be loaded. "

    I'm using WIN98 SE, and Outlook Express has been working fine for five years or so. But here's how I may have caused the problem last night:

    My c drive is pretty full and I was trying to free up some hard drive space. I went to a folder I'd named "OldCdrive" with a lot of folders and files I'd recovered from a hard drive failure two or three years ago. I deleted the Outlook Express folder therein because I had what I thought was the functioning Outlook Express folder under C:\Program Files\Outlook Express. I presumed that was what had been running my Outlook Express program for the last two or three years.

    Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hi ...welcome to the BBS

    Real easy to find out, right click on your Outlook Expree shortcut, select properties....under target...see what folder it is pointing to...if it's pointing to the deleted folder, ahem....let's hope it's not...

    Cheers

    It's as I suspected, the shortcut does point to c:\Program Files\Outlook Express. I thought that was the Outlook Express I'd been using for the last two or three years. So, anybody have a solution or suggestion?

    Have you checked to see if you have the file or not? Start>find>files or folders. It would be nice to know for sure whether or not you have the file before getting further into this. If you do, what version is it (right click on it>properties)? What version of IE are you using (yes, I know we're talking about OE here :) )?

    Thanks Zander, I should have thought of that. Turns out I have *two* outlook express folders! One is c:\my documents\old c drive\outlook express, and the other is c:\program files\outlook express.

    My Internet Explorer version is 6.0.2800.1106.

    The info. for the c:\my documents\old c drive\outlook express folder is:
    msimn = 56.0kb size, created 12/24/02, version 6.00.2800.1106
    msoe = identical size and text on both outlook express folders
    oemig50 = 54.5kb size, created 12/24/02, version 6.00.2800.1106
    setup50 = identical size and version on both outlook express folders
    wab = 41.5kb size, creation date 12/24/02, version 6.00.2800.1106
    wabmig =27.0kb size, creation date 12/24/02, version 6.00.2800.1106

    The info. for the c:\program files\outlook express folder is:
    msimn = 55.5kb size, created 3/3/03, version 6.00.2800.1123
    msoe = identical size and text on both outlook express folders
    oemig50 = 54.5kb size, created 3/3/03, version 6.00.2800.1123
    setup50 = identical size and version on both outlook express folders
    wab = 32.0kb size, creation date *1/29/07*, version 5.00.2615.200
    wabmig =40.0kb size, creation date *1/29/07*, version 5.00.2615.200

    It looks like I did something on "1/29/07," yesterday, that created a new "wab' and "wabmig" file. I'm guessing IE somehow reverted to a previous version of those two files in OE. I'm also guessing having two of those files in the two OE folders is why I'm getting the error message that it can't load msoe.dll. I could rem out the two old wab and wabmig files by renaming them REMwab and REMwabmig and seeing if, after rebooting, I no longer got the error message. But I think I'll wait for your response.

    Also, I have had a continuing problem for the last two or three months where one of my OE identities (feywray) has slowed to a crawl when getting mail or opening any email received. It, however, hasn't slowed down or affected my other OE identity (artcoopstl) at all. Maybe figuring out what to do with this immediate problem could also result in resolving my continuing problem. Your help would be really appreciated. Thanks
