I am new to windows xp. My old system mobo went bad so I built a new one and the new vid card required XP. I'm running XP home w/SP2. I have a new game that isn't running right so I would use task manager to shut it down. On the last occasion I accidentally hit the escape key while using task manager, and it switched to a different window that I don't know what it's for? It has my user name, buttons at the bottom say logoff, disconnect, or send message. Nothing else. This is now the only window that comes up when I press ctrl/alt/del. I can't get task manager to come up at all. Anybody have any idea? Thanks for any help.

Do you still see the different "Tabs" at the top of Task Mgrs window?

No. There are no tabs, no wording of any kind across the top. No close or other buttons at the bottom except for the ones I listed.

If you double click in the border area of the screen you are getting, the default window will return. Actually, you can double click just about anywhere on the outer area of the Task manager screen and toggle it from single screen view to default screen with tabs.

Thanks Surferdude and Steve. That dbl click fixed it. I'm learning as I go. I upgraded from 98SE and used it for the last 6 or 7 years. I greatly appreciate the help.

Cool deal Mikey thanks for posting back the results.

That's the way most of us do it. In my case, if learning from my mistakes is the method, I must be making rapid strides. :D

    Best regards.
