Thanks for viewing, my trouble is Windows Xp, it reboots after selecting username, I rebooted with last known good menu and this worked but after shuting down and restarting the problem comes back. Is there a way to save the settings when I restore with last known good menu?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Campowe,
The option to restart using last good config should not be the first recovery that you try to use. This will load the configuration used that last successfully started and shutdown. The fact that the problem reoccurs on each shutdown or restart from this time point on, indicates the you have something interfering with a successful shutdown or restart. Have you recently changed, installed, uninstalled or updated anything. Particularly anything involving a driver. Any problems or errors just before this occurred? Any problems or errors now? Any trouble or error reported while shuting down but before your restart problem, of course. Obviously you have a restart problem.

You need to look for problems your unaware of. Adware/malware/virus, a corrupted or incomplete update, a driver gone bad in device manager, odd or new items in startup...etc

If you know or have a pretty good idea of what may be causing this, now is the time to reverse it by virus scans, adware removal, uninstall what ever was newly installed etc....

I will wait for more information or details on how you have wound up in this circled reboot cycle before offerring further advice. I just seek a little more detail on the recent events/history and problems between you and your computer.

Speaking of which, any events or problems showing up or reported in your "event viewer ". Are you familiar with this tool? As it happens there's an ongoing post with a handy link I'm going to use:

    Hello goddez1,
Thank you for responding. The computer in trouble is our HP pavilion laptop. We do not use it on line but a few days ago my son loaded a new game he bought. He has played the game for several days with no trouble. I turned it on this morning and the trouble started. As I mentioned I am able to boot up under last good known menu. Before reading your response I also tried system restore to a date before his install. It stilled failed. I guess from your response it would have been better to uninstall his game. Should I try to reverse the restore and uninstall the game or try something else?
