I think this is the right place so here goes...

On Tuesday night I shut down my PC and everything was fine. I turned it on on Wednesday and I started the internet like normal but then after running IE, it didn't connect. Now after reinstalling a new copy of XP Pro and several hours on the phone to Microsoft and my ISP, I figured out my internet connection works fine with the new install but not with the old one.

I uninstalled some stuff from my hdd then uninstalled IE7 (which has worked fine since Nov last year) and it still didn't work on IE6. Then as soon after I tried to use any other site than a Microsoft and it crashed. Reinstalling IE7 give both problems. So Microsoft India told me to install a new copy of XP but I've got several programs installed via OEM and no longer have the discs.

My first thought was that it was a virus but NAV said my PC was clean and Spyware, Ad-adware plus other programs I used to remove a malware attack a while back but nothing there. So any help please?

    Thanx

    Dan :(

    Hello Dan,

Didn't anyone suggest doing a System Restore prior to Tuesday? I would suggest you try that and go from there.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Dan,

If you shut it off because of the HD space that SR's file takes up, there is a way to control what the max size is:

SR tab in the My Computer properties dialog window > settings and adjust the slider.

    Regards - Charles
