I can remotely connect to my computer from my son's computer, but I cannot connect from my office. I checked with the admin and he says he uses the remote connection regularly. I am using Windows Remote Desktop. Thank you for your ideas.

    More details?

Is your son's computer at home in another room? If so you are connecting via LAN.

Or is his computer elsewhere and you are connecting via the internet?

    At home

My son's computer is at his house. My office computer is at my office. The client is at my home.

    connect

The admin at the office says he uses windows remote connection frequently from there. When I try to reach my deskop it simply searches and then says whatever the no connect error says.

There are many "no connection" error messages. Will be helpful to know which one you're getting.

    Hi Sussertown, Steve

As Steve said when you are back at the office get us the exact error.

RDP has many error messages not just one!:D

Don't I wish windows only had one right on the money error code, huh Steve!;) :)

    Susser also do the following:
    Start-Run
    type
    cmd
type ping (the IP you use to connect to your son) hit enter
get the results back to us.

    More info

It sounds like you don't understand the direction of the issue. I'm not contacting my son's computer. From my son's house I can get back to my home computer. From my office I cannot. However, the admin there seems to be able to use rd. Now, tell me what you want me to do.

Seems like a firewall issue to me. Check if your office PC has a firewall installed & if you have given RD the clearance to connect. Might well also ask your admin if there is any specific rule on the corporate firewall (like granting access only to him or to only a specific IP).

    Good call rsinfo

I assumed that as he had covered this with his IT they would have told tim this.

As you say they may not have thought/remembered that they were the only ones permitted.

OR! They don't want anyone else doing it. If so they should have told him.

That is, of course, what I did first, but according to the admin, it should be okay. Maybe he forgot something about the permissions. I will ask him again.

Also it might help if you did the process in my post #7 above.

Let him and us know the results.

    At your office!

    Susser also do the following:

Your son's computer must be up for you to connect and for the below test.

    Start-Run
    type
    cmd
    type

ping (the IP you use to connect to your son) hit enter

get the results back to us.

    Fixed

The admin went to my office and typed my ip address and connected. Then I went to the office and did the same thing. I don't get it. I have been doing this for years and I kept typing the address from my daytimer. I could never get it to connect. Nevermind.
