I'm using Netscape 7.2. I have 6 different e-mail accounts Netscape handles: 4 POP3s and 2 IMAPs. On my main PC I am having no problems with the account settings; but w/ my new laptop set up identically with Netscape as my desktop I'm having trouble with Copies & Folders of the account settings.

One of my POP3 accounts is my DEFAULT and I cannot get it to hold the settings I set. The "Place a copy in: " box won't stay checked, the "Sent Folder on: ", the "Drafts Folder on:" and the "Templates Folder on: " buttons won't stay marked.

Also, in the 5 other mail accounts settings, the buttons and boxes will stay checked or marked but the addresses of where I want the Sent, Draft and Template messages will not stay in their own account where I want them. They have addresses changed somehow to one of the other accounts.

Have you any instructions that can help me solve this?

    Skeet,

One of the bugs in Netscape 7.x is that settings aren't always retained. Have you tried this:

In the Mail & Newsgroups Account settings, "Copies & Folders" use the default settings.
    Close Netscape

Reopen, and set the default account to your liking
    Close Netscape

Reopen - were the settings retained?

The addresses af the Sent, Drafts and Templates are the same as the e-mail account if that's what you mean by default; and of course that's what I want.
My default account still won't retain the checked box or the marked buttons.

    Skeet,

    Do this:

On the Laptop, rename your Profiles folder to XProfiles

Copy the Profiles folder on the Desktop to backup media
NOTE: if you use CD, zip the Profiles folder before burning to CD

On the laptop, unzip the Profiles folder to the Mozilla folder located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla

Let us know if you continue to have problems...

Thanks Romona.....But transfering my desktop Profiles folder to my laptop didn't work. I tried first just copying over the laptop's Profiles folder; that didn't work. Then I removed the folder from my laptop and Pasted Profiles to the Mozilla folder w/o any luck.

    Can I reinstall 7.2 over itself? Can I install 8.1.2 over 7.2?

1.I don't think that copying the Profile folder would help, but it would help to copy the .slt folder which is inside the Profile folder. Then you can use it in place of the original .slt folder. The .slt folder has all your personal info, including Mail.
It would not be helpful to reinstall 7.2 over anything. And 8.1.2 is a browser only, with mail, and is completely independent from 7.2. I have a feeling that your laptop setup is not identical to the desktop setup. Do you have the same operating system in both?

Thanks for the advice. I have XP Pro on my desktop and XP Media Center Edition 2004 on my laptop. 7.2 worked fine when I first installed it on my laptop.

I tried copying only the desktop .slt folder to the laptop after removing the laptop's .slt folder. I get Netscape's Profile Manager indicating an Available Profile: default that won't work to start Netscape and wanting me to create, rename or delete it.

Sounds like I may need to reinstall 7.2 then reinstall my mail from my desktop.

Question: Does installing Thunderbird pick up my mail from 7.2 after I get it working again? How do you keep all my mail and move over to Thunderbird?

I tried one other thing! I renamed the new .slt folder I put on my laptop from my desktop back to the laptop's original .slt folder's name. That seems to work. My mail works and the Copies & Folders section is retaining it's checked boxes, marked buttons and addresses.

Still I want to know about moving to Thunderbird and FireFox.

    Thanks for you help.

It is easy, and, hopefully, trouble-free. You download the desired files, and for Firefox, you can get either v.1.5.0.9 or 2.0.0.1. Start the installation. Each program is a standalone. You will be given the option of importing setting from another program. In this case NS7.2 for both programs. And, you will have the two programs, which you may decide to make your default.
This link will give you links to download FF2.0.0.1 and Thunderbird1.5.0.9
FF1.5.0.9, whose support will be dropped in the spring, has a built-in button to get mail. FF2.0.0.1 needs a small extention
