Not sure whether to post this under "General Security" or here, but since the problem doesn't occur with IE, I'm leaning more toward it being a Firefox issue.
I've been having loss of connectivity issues with Zone Alarm's free firewall recently, so I thought I'd give Kerio's free firewall a shot instead. [Just for the sake of providing complete background info, yes, I am sure the connectivity problems were related to the ZA firewall: if I shut down ZA and turned on the Windows firewall instead, connectivity was always immediately restored.]
For the most part, I like the new firewall, but there's a quirk I can't figure out: when I click on "sign out" from a Hotmail account, I never actually get signed out unless I completely close the browser and open it anew (on the sign-in page, the Hotmail settings are checked for "Always ask for my e-mail address and password "). Actually, if I have more than one Firefox window open, I have to close ALL of them before opening a new one to get back to the Hotmail sign-in page. For example, if I'm looking through postings at windowsbbs in one window, and checking Hotmail in another (separate windows, not just separate tabs), I have to close both windows before being successfully logged out of Hotmail; if only close the Hotmail window, but leave the windowsbbs window open, when I open a new browser window and go to Hotmail, I'm still logged into the account I was at last.
We use a couple of Hotmail accounts, and we typically click on "sign out ", then go right back to hotmail.com and sign in under another account. This always worked fine when we had Zone Alarm's firewall installed, and this method still works with Kerio's firewall if we use IE, just not with Firefox - which continues to take us back to the account we were last logged into. This problem only seems to crop up with Hotmail - I can sign out of Yahoo and Gmail addresses without any trouble using Firefox.
I removed ZA according to instructions provided at the ZoneLabs.org forum. I've turned off all anti-virus & anti-spyware programs while installing Kerio's firewall, and I've tried reinstalling it three times, but the Hotmail sign-out glitch is consistent.
I can't find a specific help forum for Kerio, so I'm back here yet again! Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks!

Feedback and/or suggestions are still welcome, but I've uninstalled the Kerio firewall. I'd been running an older version of Zone Alarm free (6.1.737), because subsequent versions caused me to lose internet connectivity within 20 minutes of not actively using the internet. After reading some postings at various forums, though, I decided to try the most recent version of ZA free (6.5.737) - and so far so good. Internet connectivity has remained intact all day so far. With any luck, maybe ZA will work for me again after all!
I'm still mystified about the Kerio/Firefox/Hotmail weirdness, though...

Just in case, get Sygate. It is not being updated, but it is free, and have had no problem the latest Zone Alarm tantrum.
    Rebecca,
I am also posing the question to a friend who has Kerio Firewall, but he does not have Hotmail.

I got the following from my friend:
I will be more than glad to give my opinion on this matter... First of all is she on dialup ?
Next thing is Zone Alarm and Kerio are the two worst firewalls for dialup user "s.. Zone alarm is way too aggressive and they both
have never really been too good with dialup. Kerio has always had a problem.. The only version of Kerio that did not have a bug in it was the
2.14 version. And for Zone Alarm you would have to go back to the 3.57 version. Now it sounds like she might have some other problems as well.
Can you tell me the specks of her computer ? What make / brand and what is the processor speed and how much Memory does she have.
Now I see where she could be having a problem in three areas , The firewall, the Browser or it could be the website. Or maybe all of the above.
I would try some other firewalls, like sygate or lavasoft personal firewall.. She really needs too narrow the problem. I really don't use ZA or
Kerio at all because of there problems.

So, not too much help, other than not using Kerio. He agrees with me about the use of Sygate. I am not familiar with Lavasoft, but it is the same place where one gets AdAware.

    Thanks for the feedback, Westside.
    Just for the record:
    I'm on broadband (DSL)
Computer is a Dell Dimension 5100
Processor: 2.80 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
    1 GB of RAM

I've downloaded Sygate, but will keep it on a back burner for now, primarily because I'm just so comfortable with Zone Alarm (sometimes I like to experiment, but sometimes I like to stick with things that are familiar to me!)- and right now I seem to have most of the glitches worked out.
After fiddling with some of the ZA settings, the only connectivity problem I have is with IE, which I very rarely use anyway. IE works fine when I first start up the computer, but after any period of inactivity, I get a "Cannot find server" message with IE. No such problem with Firefox - I can be away from the computer all day, and still be able to access the internet with Firefox when I sit back down at the computer. Given that both browsers supposedly use the same port, this is yet another mystery to me, but it's one I can pretty easily live with! I've posted a question about that at the ZA forums, and I'll see what they might come up with.

    Rebecca,
let us know, if you have any reply. I gave up on Zone Alarm when it appropriated the default for certain type of files. It would not allow me to do anything about it, like making changes in the Registry. So, when I have a .zip file Zone Alarm would come up, and attempt to convert such file into an unusable format. The news group was no help, because they said that it was a property of the Pro version, and should have been reversible. I never had the Pro version, nor the Trial version which would have done the same thing. And ZA support was of no use, because I was not eligible.
And, at one time in the past, it kept me from accessing the Web. So, two different problems are more than enough.
    But, good luck to you.
