Installing Game NFS

Hi All
Hope someone can help me out here,

My grandson likes to play games on my PC, I have quite a few on here for him.

One is Need for Speed Underground, I bought him Need for Speed Most Wanted, for Christmas.
Now NFS "most wanted" will not install, Installation window opens but there is no install button to click on. It seems that it is seeing NFS Underground and thinks that it is installed. From what I have read at the EA Games web site.
They say to uninstall "Underground" and then install "most wanted" then install "underground" again.

Here is my problem, my grandson has made many cars in "underground" and I don't want to uninstall it for fear of losing all the cars he has made.

Is there a way that I could move or hide underground to install most wanted then unmove or unhide underground that way I won't risk losing his cars??

They also said that I should download this "ikernelupdate" which I believe is a set up wizard and mine was out of date, but my version number seems to be more recent then the one they gave me?

Before you unistall NFS copy the saved games etc to a disk or another folder on you HD.. Then after you install Most Wanted and re-install Underground just put your saved games back. Everything will be fine after that.

If you're not sure how to find the saved games let me know and I'll give you detailed instructions so you have no problems..

Need For Speed is my all time favorite game(s) and I can see your grandson having alot of fun with it... I know I do..

I guess I'll need them, I looked through the NFS folder but didn't see saved games.

Is it for "Need For Speed Underground" or "Need For Speed Underground 2 ".. The reason I ask is because the saved game Data is kept in 2 different places.. If you are not sure then I'll tell you for both....

Need For Speed Underground.

I was told by someone else that saved games would not be deleted by uninstalling the game.

But I really don't want to take the chance. I'm afraid my grandson would want to shot me if I lost all his cars. He has spent many hours while he is here making cars...even made one for his grandma...pink and purples

I've been told the same thing, but on 2 occasions they were deleted.... so I think its better to be safe..... As for making the cars... I know what your Grandson went through to get them they way he wanted them... Personally I wouldn't want to loose them either.... its alot of work...

I'll type out the instructions for you and post them in my next message here....

 

You didn't mention which Need For Speed Underground you needed the info on, so I'll give you the saved game folders for both Need For Speed Underground and for Need For Speed Underground 2.

What you will need to do is go to My Computer and from the top menu bar select "Tools" then select "Folder Options" ... In the Folder Options Select "View ". Under "Hidden Files and Folders" check "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and un-check "Hide Protected Operating System Files ", then exit completely out of there.

Double click on the drive you have the game installed on (usually c: ) and follow the paths for the appropriate game I have written below.

Then all you need to do is "Save" the complete folder I have highlighted to a safe place (personally, I put all saved game data on a re-recordable CD - incase of a HD crash)

Need For Speed Underground

The final game save directory is located at:

\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NFS Underground


Need For Speed Underground 2

The final game save directory is located at:

\Documents and Settings\PC Login ID\Local Settings\Application Data\NFS Underground 2
Substitute your actual Login ID for the PC Login ID mentioned above.

After you have the folders copied, return to My Computer and from the top menu bar select "Tools" then select "Folder Options" ... In the Folder Options Select "View ". Under "Hidden Files and Folders" check "Do Not Show Hidden Files and Folders" and check "Hide Protected Operating System Files ", then exit completely out of there.

Yes that was a big help. I'm glad I saved them.

After uninstalling NFS underground and then installing NFS most wanted, then it would not let me reinstall underground

So I emailed EA and gave them a piece of my mind They sent a fix...which did not work

So I went to their forms and tried different solutions until I found one that worked.
I had to rename the most wanted folder and then it let me install underground.

So I beleive everything is in working order, both games on the PC and saved games back in place.

PS, still waiting for second reply from EA, Even though it has been installed I will keep after them till they send me the correct fix
