Okay, I feel mislead. I was told by someone that I can save Mac documents to a PC using a floppy disk drive and that they would show as text documents.

I have an old LCIII Mac from 1991, and it has a lot of important Word documents and Quark Xpress documents. I copied all these documents to a floppy disk, but then it forces me to format the disk for mac first. So I do, then save them on the disk.

Next, I transfer the floppy disk to my PC thinking they would all show as TEXT files. But lo and behold, it asks me to format the disk for PC!!! Then a warning sign says "Warning, you will erase everything on this disk "....I'm like...well, what can I say?

Your help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Okay, I learned that you cannot use floppy.

But how on earth is it possible to get them on a PC? This mac only has a floppy drive, and no way to network it or hook it to the internet.

Do a Google for "Mac to Pc floppy" and you'll get lots of insight. Basically, if you're running an older Mac, it takes 3rd party software to do this. The newer Macs can do it on their own.

Hmmm...can't seem to find any freeware for this. Does anyone know of some freeware that will allow your PC to recognize text files on a Mac-formatted Floppy disk?

You may be able to boot the windows pc using a "live linux" cd. The linux op systems runs directly from the cd and does not touch the hard drive. Once booted to graphical linux desktop you could then insert the floppy, copy the files to the desktop and then formart the floppy as FAT and put the files back on the newly formatted disk. OF you may be able to copy the files directly to your hard drive. Check out Knoppix: http://www.knoppix.org/
