I've recently bought a new pc with the above mobo installed.
the machine was supplied with 1hdd installed in a SATA arrangement. I'd like to add another hdd but when i hooked up another drive (which had an OS on it) the machine booted from the drive i had just added.
i'd like to format the OS from the second drive but if i do that and connect it, the machine will simply tell me that there is no OS since it wants to boot from that drive.

i had a look in the bios but couldn't see anything obvious about changing the boot order.
the drive it boots from just now is the 3rd ide master device but when i add the new drive it's the primary master.

can i alter the boot order or do something else so that my new drive will simply be visible so i can wipe the OS from it?

    thanks

Your SATA connections on the mobo should be numbered.

Sounds like the original drive is in the second spot..Move it to the first...Then add the new drive to #2..

    Thanks Steve

the original drive is connected to SATA 1. there is a red ribbon cable connecting the drive to the mobo but there are no plugs to connect another drive in the middle like an IDE cable.

so the pc boots from SATA without my new drive in but my new drive when connected to IDE 1 takes priority.

i think the connections on the two drives are different so i can't make them both IDE or both SATA.......has to be one of each i think.

so can i change the boot order in the bios?

Helps to know that the new drive is IDE..Set the jumper pin to CS...And or look in the bios for "Boot Sequence" and make sure the SATA is first.
