    Hi,

When I try to do a full scan with the Malicious Software Removal Tool, it stops scanning at the following point:

    C\Windows\System32\OOBE\msobshel.dll.

It completes the quick scan without any problems.

    What can I do?

There are reports of AVG stopping at this dll file.
Not sure if you are reporting a scan of an antivirus product or a spyware product stopped by this dll

When a google search is done for spyware it seems that there are a number of antivirus products ( Panda also) that stops at this dll.

Antivirus programs usually do not hunt down spyware themselves . Fear of lawsuits.
Try adaware or spybot. The trend spyware program seems to find items that the others miss. The first 30 day trial is fully functional.
You can look up the dll , download it and replace the copy you have if you wish.

    visionof,

What I am scanning with is the Monthly Windows Update - KB890830, Malicious Software Removal Tool.

I do not get the same problem when I use my SpyBot, Adaware or NAV.

Why would this help? Is there any danger to doing this? Thanks for your help.

    Hello Ann,

Because there may be something wrong with it - corrupted in some way. You can run a tool, system file checker that will replace any corrupted system files if corrupted or missing.

    How to: http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-24.html

As in any process where there are changes made to the system, create a manual System Restore point to go back to in case of need beforehand.

    Regards - Charles
