    Hello,

Shortly after upgrading to Thunderbird version 1.0.2 I noticed that whenever I click on an embedded website e-mail link, Thunderbird opens to my inbox rather than opening to the "Compose Mail" window. Everything works fine on my other machine with the same software.

Have I boogered my settings somehow, or have I corrupted my Thunderbird application? Is there a quick fix for this or do I have to start from square one?

    V/R,

    Mike

Mike are you sure about the TB version. It should be 1.5.0.9. Maybe you are talking about something else?

As Bill indicated, your version, and the current versions are totally different things. If you got v.1.0.2 it should not do what you describe, but we are quite confused by the fact that you say that you upgraded to a version which has been replaced by more than a dozen newer versions. What did you have before, where did you get this "new" version, and was (is) Thunderbird your default e-mail client (it won't open if it is not default).

    Hello all-

OK, my mind is now up to TB version 1.5.0.9 (I forgot to annotate my shortcut).

I am still having the same problem.

    Sorry for the mixup.

Thunderbird is my default, and has been for about 3 years.

    V/R,

    Mike

I don't have such a link to prove or disprove your point. I don't think that it is a Thunderbird problem, but rather of the browser or wherever you have the link. Anyway, the simple fact that TB opens should be good enough.

    Hello,

Thanks for your quick reply. The problem occurs whenever I click on a "Contact Us" button (for example). In the past, Thunderbird would open to the "Compose Mail" window with the e-mail address of the addressee in the "To" line. Instead of this happening, Thunderbird now opens to the Inbox, and I have to click on "Write ", find the e-mail address(if possible) for the "Contact Us" location, copy that address into the "To" line, and then start my message.

FWIW, Thunderbird opens the desired way on my other machine, which also is running the latest version of the software.

    I appreciate your assistance.

    V/R,

    Mike

Yes they do. I use Firefox as default browser on both. They are each stand alone machines.

When I select it, I am given two choices. One for tech support, while the other is feedback. It opens my TB1.5.0.9, with the default e-mail address of my wife, so I have to change that, and the e-mail address which I want to send to.

    Hello,

I tried the same link-just get inbox with my affected machine, get the "Compose(no subject)" window and the address "tech@icebergradio.com" with my other machine.

One other thing: I have tried saving my relevant files, uninstalling TB, then reinstalling it, but get same result.

    V/R,

    Mike

How about opening TB in no extensions mode? From the Start>All Programs>Thunderbird (no extensions).

If not that, maybe make a temporary profile to eliminate your profile being the culprit.

Bill's suggestion is quite sound, if there is any difference in extention and/or theme. It is, definitely inconvenient to have to copy the address, and open Compose, but that is a very common situation. In fact, I had originally posted that I could not find any site with a link, and soon after that I found one.
and, then there is always the profile thing. Reinstalling the program has never done me any good.

    Hi Mike,

I've been following this thread with interest, as I'm completely unable to duplicate your situation. Any contact link which I click on in FF opens a TB composition window, try as I might to make it do otherwise.

Since you have a working FF/TB combination on one machine, try this: move your TB profile on the affected machine to a safe location, then copy the profile from the good machine to the affected machine (via LAN or flashdrive, if possible), making sure that the folder has the same name as the original profile folder. If that doesn't correct your problem, you'll at least know that it's not the profile at fault.

    Hello again,

Thanks, everyone, for your patience and assistance. You have given me several things to try, and I will do so to the best of my limited ability. It may take be some time, so please don't think I am ignoring anyone.

I will post results as soon as I have some.

    V/R,

    Mike

    Mike,

On the problem machine, check these Registry Keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\http\shell\open\command

    "C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD\THUNDERBIRD.EXE -url "%1 "

Are these keys the same as yours? If not modify the keys exactly as above, and see if this makes a difference. Backup the existing keys before doing any editing. If you don't know how to do this type of Registry edit, let me know, and I'll talk you thru it. You might also compare these Registry Keys on the problem machine with the "good" machine...

Jim is right on, in moving the "good" profile to the problem machine. However, if I could add just one tip:

On the problem machine, rename the "Thunderbird" folder to XThunderbird. The folder is located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Thunderbird

    Next:
Copy the Thunderbird folder from the "good" profile, and paste it into the Application Data folder, which is located here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data

Make a backup copy of your "good" Thunderbird folder before doing any editing.
