ZA 3.1 Free available to existing Users "

    Quote from Zone Labs:
With over 17 million users of ZoneAlarm products, our primary concern with this launch is to provide a satisfactory upgrade experience for folks. To ensure that, we'll be making the upgrade available to a fixed percentage of our existing users every day, through the "Check for Updates" feature. This process will continue for several days before we officially announce ZoneAlarm on our site and make it available to the general public.

    Thanks WhitPhil,

I managed to get the new version after a couple tries. It seems to work like the old but the user interface has changed some. It installs righ over the old version without a hitch. It's only necessary to disable the old version so it won't be running when the install takes place.

    ZA is good stuff!

Beware that if your exisiting ZA Free offers protection against all 37 (roughly) of the original MailSafe extensions (rather than only .vbs), the new ZA Free v3.1 may wipe this protection out. Up to now people with the full deck (which came with some really old versions of ZA) kept them when they updated, even when updating to the latest prior Free version, v2.6.326. So this would be a change. There are some lengthy discussions on this subject on other Forum Boards.
You can determine what extensions are now flagged by MailSafe in your existing version of ZA by looking in your Registry in

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT under ".z" and

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ZoneLabs\ZoneAlarm\Mai
    lSafe Extensions.
