Have tried numerous removal tools. All seem to identify the problem and remove it, however when I start up again the problem persists.
Am using McAfee Firewall, Adware v5, Spybot and have also tried several others to no avail.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. Have read what has been posted by the reg entries are not for XP.

Hello and welcome to WindowsBBS Forums.

Most of the regular apps on the market today cannot remove this infection totally, if it is indeed Instant Access, as many apps call different lesser variants different things. Lets get a HijackThis! log file and work from that.

Please download HijackThis! SetUp from here. Save the file to your desktop.

Double-click the HijackThis! SetUp icon to begin the installation. Follow the prompts for the default install location of:'C:\Program Files\HijackThis'. Tick the 'Create a desktop' button when the option appears. Select next, then allow HijackThis! to start.

Then press the [Scan] button. You will notice the [Scan] button will turn into a [Save Log] button. Click the [Save Log] button and notepad will open up with the contents of the scan. Right-click in the saved log, and select 'copy'. Then proceed to your original thread, unless otherwise instructed and click the '[Reply]' button and paste the saved contents to be reviewed. Do not make any modifications to the log or perform any 'fixes' until told to do so.

Well I'm not seeing any indication of Instant Access dialer. Where exactly was the infection located on the system, e.g., file path on the drive.

    Let me know.

There are a few minor items to be removed with HJT, but nothing malicious really. One ActiveX which does not produce many results via Google, so we can remove it. If it is legit, the next time you visit that site, it will install with no problems.

Open Hijackthis, select the [Do a system scan only] button and look over the following entries I have listed, check the boxes [] next to them and press the [Fix Checked] button. When you are doing this, make sure you have No IE windows, nor any other browsers open, including this one. Reboot if I have specified below, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

Reboot, run HJT, if the above are gone, no need to repost with new log.

What pop up would these be? No mention in your original post about any pop ups. Do they point to any specific type of site\app?

    Let me know.

Try fixing that R line in safe mode.

And is the site listed in the first R line, supposed to be your home page? I saw it listed also in the 017 section and most times this is an ISP.

    Instan Dialler Problem cont....

    Hi TeMerc,

    pop ups are from sites:

    Http:\\fp-gadnetwork.com...........jpg
    hxxp:\\www.amaena.com

    I also get a windows error that says "c:\documents and Settings\user\local\temp\icd1.tmp\IaLdr32.exe "
windows cannt open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more info contact your system administrator. Then the **** starts

These just pop up with either **** or trying to sell me a reg remover.

tried removing the lne in safe mode and when I boot up again in normal mode and review the HJT file it is there again.

    Regards

    Ynot

Ok, the link you have referred to could be an indication of a Vundo infection. We'll do a couple of things and then run HJT again as well as another file searching tool.

I'd like you to do is to rename the HijackThis executable, hijackthis.exe to <anything of your choice> .exe, as long you change it's name. Some Vundo infections are coded to avoid HJT detection. By changing the name of the executable, we circumvent that code.

    Please download SilentRunners from here

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it. If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
Silent Runners will ask if you want to skip the supplementary search.
Please select 'No' to include them.
Then select 'Yes' to confirm the search.
When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.

Please post the entire contents of this logfile created back into this thread for me to see.

Also run HJT once the name has been changed, post that log too.

Ok, not seeing anything in either of those logs. That 016 entry must have somehow slipped by IE7, it's supposed to alert you when an ActiveX tries to install.

But I'm also not convinced it is rogue either.

Lets run a rootkit scanner and see what it finds.

    Download and run F-Secure Blacklight
Double-click on bibeta.exe to run it.
Click the *I accept* button near the bottom of that page.
Download and run Blacklight click > scan then > next, next again then exit
there will be a new text file near Blacklight. Post it please. The text file is named:
fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)
!!Do not rename any files yet

ahhhh.....looks like that found a few which are indeed bad.

Lets run Blacklight again, when it has finished scanning and shows results as previous then:
    • left-click each entry to highlight it
    • Then click the [Rename] button.
    • Do the same for each entry
    • Once done, hit the [Next] button
    • When the alert pops up about renaming legit files, and tick the box[] labeled 'I have understood the warning and wish to continue' and then hit the [OK] button.
    • Hit the [Restart] button, then the [Ok] button to restart and rename the files selected

Once rebooted, run HJT and fix the following lines:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm

    O16 - DPF: {AA59202C-5E41-48FC-AF7D-324F5FD6A9F1} - http://scripts.dlv4.com/binaries/ega...1070_em_XP.cab

Reboot yet again, run HJT and Blacklight and post both logs here. Also let me know if you get any pop ups or anything else for that matter.

    Hi TeMerc,

did as you suggested and rebooted in SAFE mode and eliminated the two entries using the renamed HJT file. Herewith the log, the ".....blank htm.." entry just won't go away. Tried twice and using admin log on.

    Blacklight looks clean, thats good.

We need to address the new HJT lines, now that the rootkit is disabled.

I just had a thought that perhaps your NoAdware app is not 'allowing' the change to the homepage.
Disable it and fix again with HJT, see if it sticks. also fix the following line and then delete the file in safe mode if found:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwodrayi] c:\windows\system32\nwodrayi.exe nwodrayi

Reboot, run new HJT post back.

OK, everything looks good and the fact you're not reporting any odd symptoms is great, nice work.

We can now do some final maintenance and our recommendations to surf securely.

We have 3 more things to do, mostly maintenance and then our recommendations:

Empty the TIF (Temporary Internet Files)
Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp folder
The app below will help with temp files.
    Index.dat Suite

Also, delete all your cookies, and empty your recycle bin. But remember, by deleting your cookies, you will have to re-enter any passwords and log-in info for any sites you are usually required to do so with.

This would also be a good time to set a new system restore point for your machine.
Set New System Restore Point. Do not do this unless there are no other user accounts to be diagnosed.

Also, as you are an XP user, if there are any other accounts on this machine, they too, must be cleaned with AdAware, Spybot S&D, then HJT. Not all infections are global, nor are all the HJT fixes global. You can post each user account here into this thread, but please, do only one at a time to avoid confusion. It is very rare that anything significant is ever found.

Here is a link which describes how security apps work with WIN XP machines.
XP User Accts Security Apps Operation

To further prevent the installation of ad/mal/spyware, DL the apps below, which are just as good the fight against ad/mal/spyware as AdAware & Spybot S&D:

    SpywareBlaster
With SpywareBlaster v3.5.1 , just DL, install and check for updates, enable Internet Explorer protection, and your done! I don't recommend using IE restricted sites protection as it's not a very large database. Use IE-SPYADs below.

To avoid known malware infested sites from loading in IE install IESPY ADS.
And MVPS Hosts File will accomplish a similar tactic and provide another layer of protection.

And to prevent unknown applications from being inserted to start up on your machine install WinPatrol v10.0.5.

Another thing I would suggest, is to install SiteAdvisor. It gives sites a few different 'ratings' and while not fool proof, a good additional layer of information about many sites.

Links for tutorials for all the apps I mentioned can be found on my site as well.

Confused about which apps are good or not? Read about Rogue/Approved Anti Security apps

And just because you have security apps installed, they are useless unless updated regularly. Keep track of updates for ALL your security needs here:
    Calendar of Updates

Subscribe to update alerts for all the above security apps here.

You can also see my own ongoing security testing with all the above apps proving how securely you can safe with them installed.

    Happy surfing!!
