hi. my mom bought a new computer. I took the slave out of her old computer and installed it in the new one... everything seemed to install fine, drivers updated, etc. In disk management, the drive is healthy (only changes I made was "mark partition as active ")... capacity seems right, and disk space used seems about right.. nothing shows up in explorer. before I did the "mark partition as active" thing, I created a new folder, which remains empty after any changes I've made...so I have no idea where the other data is.. ran disk check, everything seems fine. any suggestions?

    Hi,

Personally, I would only use "mark as active" option on a drive I was setting up. I am sure that I have seen warnings about it.
    Some reference information:
    www.pcguide.com
    Navigate using the left-hand panel.

There is limit on the number of active partitions you can have (4 from memory).

If the drive was set as slave in the previous system, I wonder if it may have been partitioned as an extended logical partition of the master. Can you set it back in the original system and backup the data?

Use the testing utilities from the HDD manufacturer's website. If it seems to say that the data is there you may be able to backup (copy) the data to the new HDD using DOS. After you exit the testing program, you will be left at a DOS prompt.

    Data recovery:
