My scanner and camera are not found by the computer. I have tried reinstalling both but no go. Everything worked last time I used them (last week) nothing has been installed since and the only thing that has changed was fixing the errors I found in the event logs as described in my other post. The print, fax, scan is a Brother 5440 the fax and print functions work fine. the diagnostics report that the scanner cannot communicate with the computer but also reports that the installation is OK. I am assuming whatever the problem is is the same reason the camera is not communicating with the computer. All are USB connections and I have tried different USB ports with the same results. In the System log I am now getting a warning from the source "BrSerial" Event "4 "

Hockalugie, what did I do take you to raise?:D

    Shut down and turn off.

While off unplug all usb devices except printer.

    Then turn on!

    Go to safe mode.

    Control panel-System-Device manager.

    Remove/uninstall all Unknown devices

Anything else with red x or yellow exclamation

Slide down to Universal serial bus controllers, click + to open this tree

start at bottom rt click an remove/uninstall each item from bottom up do them all and when finished the entire Universal serial bus controllers will be gone.

    Restart to normal mode.

    Test printer.

Connect camera, check it. If it works, then do scanner.

If no shut down unplug both reverse the order scanner first check it if it works add camera.

If this don't work you are up the creek!!!!!!

At least until you get back to us and we continue!:D

The printer/scanner are the same machine.
The printer works, in other words data will go OUT from the computer but will not come in (from the scanner or camera)
My mouse and keyboard are USB they both work firn

Ok now I started in safe mode went to Dev Mgr and found NO unknown devices NO red X's and NO yellow !'s

When I started (from the bottom) uninstalling everything the first (last) line is USB root Hub I uninstall it and my mouse and keyboard go away so I'm stranded at that point :( There are 9 lines under USB controllers If you want I'll list them

    Thanks

    Christo

    OK!

Perhaps we can get around it.

Do a windows update then below.

Have you downloaded the latest sofware and drivers from the Printer/scanner website for your model.

    Just reinstall it.

If it fixes it then do the same for the camera

    get back

That was the first thing I tried. I also found a reg repair for the BrSerial error on the Brother (my print/scaner manufacturer) website. That didn't help either. I am still getting the BrSerial error/warning in the System Log.

OK the BRserial is for the brother printer.

I think in order to fix this you need to uninsatall all to do with this printer.

Shut down the computer remove the cable then boot back up with no printer at all. Clear the errors reboot one more to make sure they are gone.

Then go back with the install as you did when you first installed it.

Clearing this one error could fix the camera issue also.

    OK Hock

Sorry so long gettig back. Was very busy yesterday on bbs and other things.

Additionally had to think about your issue.

I think your issue is ASPI and we will get to that after the following.

    Start-Run
    type
    cmd
    then type

    sc query type= service state= all > c:\allserviceslist.txt

    then type
    exit

Then open notepad or wordpad and browse to the root c:\

    open allserviceslist.txt
Copy and paste back to the BBS

This will allow me to see all the services you are running and what their state is.

Ball is back in your park!:)

I get this message in the cmd window:

'sc' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

    The allserviceslist.txt file is blank.

    Ball back to you

    bottom right click
    Save to text file

At filename (top line) add c:\ to the beginning end up with c:\install.txt
    exit CClean

When I click run cleaner a message pops up saying it will delete files do you want me to do this? It doesn't tell me what files it is going to delete. I don't like deleting files unless I know what they are. I'll wait for your reply before I do anything with ccleaner. Remember I have a full registered version of ccleaner installed. The latest version # 1.36.430. :)

    Hi Hock

First was sc run in safe mode. There seem to be many services missing in the list. The Server service we just installed for one.

If you ran it in Safe Mode do it in full mode and post it again.

Or did the post not except all, you may have to look at the last on the post and post from there down.

Do this after also, it is a condensed list but the other has more info.
paste the below to the cmd prompt

    sclist c:\allserviceslist2.txt

    Browse and past this.

CCleaner: Hock these are all temps and need to be cleaned run until nothing found. Same for Issues.

    OK Christo:)

I see what may be our problem.

While we are adjusting services get me one more report this way:

    cmd prompt
    type
    ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.out

then browse to it Edit the last numbers of the Ip address to .xx.xx then copy and paste the entire file to me

Also are you connected to any LAN (network)?

How is your computer connected to the internet?
    Directly to a cable/dsl modem
    or
    Thru a router?

Turn on the following services to start Automaticly and start them

RpcLocator Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator

    StiSvc Still Image Service

After setting these to start automaticlly reboot and check if all is not now working.

Then get me the above info and I will advise some services to stop thereby perhaps increasing your performance and stability.

    Mike
