When I go to a site to play a home movie some one has made available, I will sometimes get a message that I have JavaScript turned off or do not have the latest version of Flash Player. I can click on the link to install the latest Flash Player and install it, but I still cannot play the movie. I do not know if I have JavaScript turned off or not.

Can someone tell me where to look for JavaScript options?

    With IE6 they're located here:

    Tools menu
    Internet Options
    Security tab
    Internet Zone
    Custom Settings
scroll down the list to locate Javascript

Scripting of Java applets is enabled. Also, all items under Scripting is enabled. Under Microsoft VM, Java Permissions is set to Medium safety. I still have the same problem.

I sometimes have the same problem and the only way I can get the Flash Player to load is to go to the Add & Remove programs and REMOVE the Flash Player and then download the Flash Player again.
Then it works for a while then magically something happens and I have to repeat the process over again.
It happened when I was running IE6 and still happens now that I'm running
    IE7.
Anyone have a answer to keep it permanently installed?

Do you have Sun Java installed? The Microsoft VM isn't going to cut it. Also do you have SP2 installed?

    http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Download and install the version for Windows. Open IE then click on Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab then scroll down Browsing and check the box Enable third-party browser extensions... and to Java (Sun) and check the box Use JRE.... plus uncheck anything related to Microsoft VM then click OK and reboot the computer.

    Migrating From the Microsoft VM
for Java to the Sun JRE

    FYI-
You do NOT need any type of java (sun or ms) to be able to display & view javascript and/or flash. java has nothing at all to do with these 2 things EXCEPT that javascript can be embedded in a java applet or a java application. java is rarely if ever embedded in a flash object, javascript is often embedded in a flash object. java & javascript are alike ONLY in name, that's all.

    Your situation comes from either:
    1. computer or browser misconfigurations
    2. errors in the code of the webpage or errors in the code of the javascripted flash object.

3rd Party Browser Extensions will have absoloutely NO affect on whether or not a flash object or a javascript object can be displayed & viewed.

What is the address of said home movie?

I have been using the videos at YouTube for testing.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

It is now working after I removed Flash Player and reinstalled it. Now if it will just stay put and not go bad again.

How did you get it to show a --size--in the add & remove programs?
Everytime I had to install it the program would show that it was installed but never a size.

Where did you go to download it?

    javascript or flashplayer problem

hi paul, sorry i took so long to reply as i couldnt remember where i got the proper file for this annoying problem so many people are having. duh! :) here is the place to go , its the complete standalone installer, go to www.software.com look for at the top of the page it should say flash player 9.0 etc, file size 4.6 mb etc , look for download the correct file name is install_flash_player_active x if you see that thats the one you want. when its in your computer after you download and install it in your add and remove programs it should say adobe flash player active x size 2.33 mb . god only knows what the heck i was installing previously as it kept telling me it was installed and there was no installer listed or mb size. i hope this helps everyone who is ready to strangle the stupid adobe flash player or throw the computer out the window. :) oh when its in the computer it will be stored in your windows file as a windows installer pkg.

pishbloom, thank you, that seemed to do the trick. I now show a file size for Flash Player in my Add & Remove list.
Hope this is the end of the "disappearing" Flash Player saga.
    :) :) :)

I had found that same site with a Google search and it worked for me. It appears that the problem is solved. In add/remove flash player now shows a size of 2.33MB.
