I am getting a script error when I try to print messages in Outlook Express. This did not start until I installed IE7. It is as follows "

    Line: 2020
    Char: 1
    Error: Unspecified error
    Code: 0
    URL: res://ieframe.dll/preview.dlg

When I entered the URL directly, it took me to the print preview page which was blank. Can't find anything on Microsoft support without spending $$.
    Anyone else have the problem?

The issue is fairly common. It usually is a missing registration on a needed DLL.
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q281679

Let me do the "hard" work for you.
Open a new notepad session, to be called IE_fix.cmd, and copy/paste the below:

    regsvr32 urlmon.dll
    regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
    regsvr32 Msjava.dll
    regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
    regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
    regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
    regsvr32 Browseui.dll
    regsvr32 Shell32.dll

Save the file, then double click IE_fix.cmd and answer the prompts. Ignore any error messages.

    Reboot and test again.

There is a possibility of faulty margin settings causing this:

    Didn't help

Thanks for the tip but it didn't help this problem. I also tried the print margin thing but that didn't work either.

    Start, Run, regsvr32 ole32.dll
    Reboot and test.

    That usually sorts this issue.

You can do this "workaround ":
Some other steps I would like you to do:

    Start, Run, SFC /Scannow
(Have your XP CD Handy. Not that this command does not give feedback on the repairs it makes. The repairs are listed in your Event Logs.)

This error can be linked to a missing/corrupt system file in XP that IE 7 exposes. A repair reinstallatiion of XP will fix it, but the above steps are less drastic.

Please see also the following, as your script error is related, as are its resolution steps: http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers/35.html

    Same Problem (Thanks)

I too was having the same exact problem with the ie script error. I too tried your first suggestion but it didn't fix the problem. I went on to you second suggestion and it DID THE TRICK....:D Thanks so much. It was driving me nuts having to copy and paste in word to print.....I have been looking for a solution for weeks. Thanks again. Sissy

    You are very welcome.

What is important to note is that both parts of the fix are required for the second discussion of ole32 registration to likely meet with success.

I should probably rewrite at least my first registration steps:

After spending many hours searching the web for a solution,

    Start, Run, regsvr32 ole32.dll
    Did the trick for me!

    Printing emails again :)

Great Hope from your success but no joy for me!

Hi My 87 year old mom's presario (running Windows XP) is behaving similarly to the problems encountered by many other posters on this thread. when ever she tries to print from IE6 or Outlook Express, the following message is displayed:
    SCRIPT ERROR
    Line 639
    Char 1
    Error: Invalid Argument
    Code: 0
    URL: res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/preview.dlg

I tried the suggested IE_fix.cmd while it ran fine it didn't solve the problem. I even tried adding the shdoclc.dll and running it. When I did I received the following eror message:
shdoclc.dll was loaded buth the DllRegsterServer entry point was not found. The file cannot be registered.

I then uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it. Again now joy. I've run SC /scannow and found no errors.
BTW the printer prints fine from notepad.
I spent 3 hours online with the HP rep but he was no help and basically threw up his hands. I've scanned for viruses etc. etc. etc.
    ANyone got any ideas????
    Jeff

    Script errors/IE7

Impressive insight into script error probs, especially helpful (see Bill Castner's suggestions). I am getting lots of "error on page" notes when accessing links on many websites. This prob seems to be Java related, but some javascripts will load. Any suggestions appreciated. Thx.
