I have a 120gb drive with four partitions. The first three partitions have win98, win2k and xp-pro installed. Both win98 and win2k will not boot. I would therefore like to remove them.
The fourth drive I use to store music and photographs.
I was thinking I could format both from xp, if I did that would xp (E:) automatically be renamed to C:
Would this cause any problems with any programs installed on xp?
I would also like find out how to remove the operating systems option menu and therefore boot straight to xp.

    Thanking you for any help

    Hi John and welcome!

The short answer is, NO. You cannot format the C: drive and still be able to boot XP on the E: drive.

There are some bootloader files that are on the root of the C: drive that are required for systems to boot.

You must either copy those down and replace them after the format or else be prepared to do some Recovery Console repair licks.

Better than me doing the explaining, you can read some on the subject and post back if you have questions. Start Here
