    Hello all,
This question comes about because I think I've stumped our SysAdmin with it. If shortcuts on the desktop use icon files (.ico), then what is used for programs that are running in the tray app? For example, we run versions of TightVNC in which it keeps an icon in the tray app when the server is running. I was trying to find the .ico so I could reference what it looks like for a customer, but discovered that I could not find it in .ico format.

I tried running a *.ico in Windows Search as well as navigating Windows Explorer directly to the program directory c:/program files/TightVNC-unstable, but I could not find the ICON found in the tray app.

Finding an image for our client's reference is easy enough with a modified screenshot, so this is more or less for curiosity sake. Are programs in the Tray App represented by a different icon file format? If so, where are they located?

    Thanks everyone!

That icon you see in the Systray is contained within the executable file being run. It is not easily user changed. You would need to hack the executable. I have played around with that before and found it to be less rewarding than the time required would justify. But if you insist,

Thanks for the info Surferdude. I'll keep that app handy for the future for those cold and lonely nights when I feel like breaking something on my PC :)
