You are correct and it was bad terminology on my part.
I said Domain enviroment when actually I meant Client\Server enviroment.

Client/Server does not mean a Windows Server OS.

    Client/Server means two things:
    • That combination of common use, sharable machines which provide a variety of services to a network of personal workstations know as clients. Server machines may be dedicated to providing file storage or peripheral device management (such as printers, scanners, etc.) services, or they may also function as personal workstations.
    • A computer or process that relies on the resources of another computer or process in order to perform a task. For example, multi-user databases often have a client-server design, where the data and the database software resides on a central server, and the users sit at PCs that have client software for that database server installed. The client and server can reside on the same or different machines.

It does not require the installation of a Windows Server OS.

Bill, you are the only one who has said that what we were presenting was a requirement. Both Scott and I have been pretty consistent in saying that what were are advocating is a recommendation.
OK - what about a network with 21, or 31 users. At some point as the network grows you need to think about AD. Reading between the lines, I think the real disagreement here is at what point that decisions comes. For me, it is around 10 users. For you it may be more like 20 or 30 users.

I think your postings can be read as suggesting that that decision never comes, and that I believe is plain wrong.

I never stated, suggested or intimated that the point never came. Using "intimation" to create a straw man argument in this instance is the last refuge of scoundrels.

The first statement is untrue. The second statement is questionable, which I hope the above discussion illuminated.

    Done for me at least.

OK. I think that we can both agree that there is a scaling issue and that as the network grows you come to a point where the best policy is to use a server with AD to manage the network.

Where we agree to disagree is the network size at which this point occurs. I think it is around 10 users, you think it is higher.

That's fine by me. Done for me too.

    Thanks for the discussion.
